Registering the OpenStack Provider instance

Before BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management can use a third-party resource provider, you must first register an instance of that resource provider.

When you register the OpenStack Provider instance, you specify configuration values that enable the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management OpenStack Provider instance to communicate with the external OpenStack Provider. Typically this configuration is a one-time task that is performed during infrastructure configuration.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have installed the OpenStack Provider.

To register OpenStack as a provider

1. From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Providers.
2. On the Providers page, click Register .
3. In the Register Provider dialog box, select OpenStack from the Provider Type list.
   The corresponding registration fields are displayed.
   
   
4. Supply the following inputs:
   The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline. Click on this message for details.
   This macro generates standalone content. As a consequence you need to make sure to use a syntax that separates your macro from the content before and after it so that it's on a line by itself. For example in XWiki Syntax 2.0+ this means having 2 newline characters (a.k.a line breaks) separating your macro from the content before and after it.
5. Click Submit.
6. Stop the BMC_CSM service of the BMC Cloud Platform Manager (OSGi):
   • (Windows) Use the stop command link in the Services window.
   • (Linux) Enter the /etc/init.d/stop bmccsm command from the specified path.
7. Restart the BMC_CSM service of the BMC Cloud Platform Manager (OSGi):
   • (Windows) Use the start command link in the Services window.

   • (Linux) Enter the /etc/init.d/start bmccsm command from the specified path. 

     Note

     After on-boarding, the OpenStack Provider auto-publishes all the accessible Glance images to the BMC Product Catalog with the following attributes for each Definitive Media Library (DML) entry:

     • Product Type: Software
     • CI Type: Product
     • Categorization Tier1: Software Distribution
     • Categorization Tier2: VM Template
     • Categorization Tier3: Openstack
     • Product Name: <Valid Openstack - Glance unique ID>
     • Manufacturer: Openstack (You might need to either pre-create this manually or create it automatically.)
8. Configure the account. At least one account must be configured in order to use the OpenStack Provider. For more information, see Managing multiple OpenStack accounts.

To deregister an OpenStack Provider instance

1. From the list in the Providers workspace, select the OpenStack provider instance.
2. Click Deregister .
3. When the confirmation dialog box is displayed, click OK.

To edit an OpenStack Provider instance

If you need to change some of the information that you supplied when you registered a resource provider instance during installation, you can edit the information.

1. From the list in the OpenStack Provider workspace select the OpenStack Provider instance.
2. Click Edit .
   The Edit Provider dialog box is displayed with the current information.

3. Make your changes. 

   Note

   • You cannot change the Provider Type or Name.
   • Restart the BMC Cloud Platform Manager (OSGi) to apply the changes.
4. Click Submit.
