Fetching warranty end dates


The Warranty tab configures the warranty end dates for the Dell and Lenovo devices. 

 Under this tab you can find the following sections:

  • Warranty Manager: The device required to request to fetch the warranty end date details. 
  • Dell Client ID: The client identification number required to request to fetch the warranty end date details. 
  • Dell Client Secret: The secret identification code required to request to fetch the warranty end date details.

To set the warranty end dates

  1. Select Global Settings > Financial Asset Management in the left window.
  2. Select the Warranty tab.
  3. Click any of the sections.

  4. Define the following values in the Properties pop-up window:
    1. Click Select AWS device icon.pngand select the proxy device from the Select the warranty fetching manager pop-up window.

    2. Enter the value on the Dell Client ID field to set the Dell client identification number.
    3. Enter the value in the Dell Client Secret field to set the Dell client secret identification number.

  5. Click OK

Fetching the warranty end dates

After you set the warranty end dates, you can fetch the warranty end date for a particular device. You can fetch the warranty end date for a device or a device group. 

To fetch warranty end dates for a device

  1. In the BCM console, select Global Settings > Device Topology > Your Device > Financial Asset Management.
  2. Right-click Financial Asset Management and select Get Warranty End Date.

To fetch warranty end dates for a device group

  1. In the BCM console, select Global Settings > Device Groups > Your Device Group > Financial Asset Management.
  2. Right-click Financial Asset Management and select Get Warranty End Date.

If you have set the warranty manager and the API call to fetch the warranty end date is successful, the pop-up window displays that the job to get the warranty details is initiated. After a successful API call on the device group or device, the Asset Tag and the Warranty Expiration Date parameters are successfully updated.

If you have not set the warranty manager and try to make an API call to fetch the warranty end date, the pop-up window displays an error that the 'Warranty Manager is not set'.

Check Warranty End Date operational rule

An operational rule step called Check Warranty End Date in master steps makes it possible to schedule the warranty end date update.

The parameters of the steps are:

  • The admin name to use for calling the action.
  • The group name or the comma separated list of group names.


Important

  • The manufacturer of the devices in the device group or the single selected device is fetched from the hardware inventory.
  • If the information of the manufacturer is not present in the hardware inventory, the device's service tag is used to make API calls to Lenovo and Dell to fetch the warranty end date.
    • For Lenovo, no key is needed to use the API.
    • For Dell, you can request the Client ID and Secret Key from the Dell Tech Direct portal.
  • If the device does not return any date, it is considered the device is neither Dell nor Lenovo.
  • It is only possible to get a warranty end date for devices that are not mobile or remote-controlled on request.
  • To check the warranty, the Warranty Manager must have access to the internet to get the information by running API calls.
