The left window pane

The left window pane or Explorer pane in the console window provides you with different possibilities to access all objects in your system through navigational objects which are displayed in the form of a tree-diagram. No node properties can be accessed directly in this pane.

This tree pane contains an explorer-like list of nodes. Each node of the tree is a CM object type or object. The hierarchy is organized in such a way that each object has a number of available views considered as its immediate children in the tree. Selecting a node in the left pane provides the focus and the right pane or data pane of the console changes to display the information relevant to that object.

If the object is a child, as for example, in the preceding example, then the list will contain the available tabs for it. If the object is a parent node, the right pane will only list the available children in a table. Clicking one of the children in the table will select it and show all available information and tabs for it.

Selecting a node in the tree then right-clicking calls up a pop-up menu which contains options applicable to that object. The items listed in the pop-up menu will also be available via the main menu bar drop-down menus.leftpane_screenshot.png

The objects in the console can be placed in two different types of containers, depending on the type of the object:

Type

Description

Group

Groups are containers in which objects are grouped according to some specific requirements, which means that an object can be in more than one group, and that a group also can have several parents. Objects collected in groups are administrators, users and devices.

Folder

A folder is a container used uniquely for organizational purposes, to sort and classify objects in different locations. The object therefore exists only once, that is, it has only one parent. Console objects sorted into folders are operational rules, queries, reports, rollouts, monitored objects, managed applications, patch groups and transfer windows.
