Deploying the Test Project via a PXE Menu

You have two options to deploy operating systems within your environment:

  • You can either have several projects for specific subnets that are parallel and simultaneously active (multi project)
  • or you can use PXE boot menus. This allows you to have projects for different computer types available and you can select at installation time which one to use.
  1. Go to the OS Deployment > PXE Menus node.
  2. Click Edit > Create Menu osdmenu_create.png.
The Create a New PXE Boot Menu dialog box appears.
  3. Enter an explicative name for the new menu in the Menu Name box, for example, Test Menu .
  4. Enter the IP address range of the targets which are to use this menu into the Scope box, for example, 94.24.127.* . Make sure this subnet includes your test device.
  5. Modify the time that the menu is to be displayed on the screen, if the default 30 seconds do not fit your requirements.
  6. Change the value of the Enabled box to Yes .
  7. Click OK to confirm.
  8. Now select the new menu in the left hierarchy tree.
  9. Go to its Items tab.
  10. Click Add a New Menu Item above the table.
The Select Projects to Add window appears.
  11. Browse down into the hierarchy and select the test project you just created.
  12. Click Add btn_add.png.
The PXE Menu Item Data window appears.
  13. Enter an expression under which the test project will appear in the menu, for example, Windows 2008 - Dell GX280 .
  14. Click OK .
  15. Click OK again.
  16. To make the project the default project right-click it in the table and select the Make Default option of the pop-up menu.InformationThe project that is already included in the menu is required and cannot be removed.
  17. To see the menu working start a device within the defined scope with PXE activated.
The PXE menu displays on the device's screen with the test project being highlighted.

    Warning

    Note:

If you want to reuse this menu with another project, you need to change the selection, otherwise the test project, which we defined as the default project will be executed once the timeout is exceeded.
