Extending patch support for EOL operating systems

Every operating system reaches an end-of-support at some time so you must purchase an extended support from the respective operating system to continue patching the machines. For example, BMC Client Management users are using Windows Server 2008 on the servers and this operating system reached end-of-support on January 14 2020. After this date, the users must purchase an extended support agreement from Microsoft to continue patching the Windows Server 2008 systems.

To deploy the Extended Support Updates (ESUs) manually

If you are unable to establish the extended support contract with Ivanti before ESU patches are available for your systems, it is still possible to deploy the ESU patches via BMC Client Management manually by performing the following steps.

  1. Download the ESU patch from the Microsoft website.
  2. Determine the correct silent install commands to install the patch without user interaction.
  3. Create a new custom package in BMC Client Management for the patch and provide the install command.
  4. Publish the package.
  5. Assign the package to the machines with systems that need the patch.
