The MyApps application kiosk

What is MyApps?

MyApps is a page of the local agent interface and provides the list of all advertised software packages, operational rules and quicklinks which are available for download, execution, installation and access on the local client.

How can I launch MyApps?

MyApps can only be accessed locally on the devices. It is launched directly via its systray icon if it already contains advertised rules. This is indicated by the agent icon on which a package displays icon_advertise.png. To open MyApps in this case double-click the systray icon.

If you already opened the "regular" agent interface, you can access MyApps simply by selecting the respective tab.

Why would I use MyApps?

MyApps is used to let users know that a specific rule or package is available for execution or installation. The users then can execute these at a time of their choosing. It also provides direct access to Internet pages or intranet shares via the Quick Links.

Who can execute objects in MyApps?

Rules and packages can be advertised to the following targets:

  • Devices (Device Groups)
If an object is advertised to a device, any user having a valid login to MyApps can access the advertised object and execute it on the device.
Example: If the rule A is assigned to device 001, then users X and Y, who both have access to this device and MyApps can execute the rule on this device.
  • Users (User Groups)
Objects assigned to a user are visible in MyApps on whichever device the respective user logs on to and my be executed there.
Example: If the rule A is assigned to user X, and this user has access to devices 001, 002 and 003, he can log on to all three of these devices and execute the rule A on them. User Y cannot execute rule A, because he cannot see it, even if he logs on to one of these devices.

The different views of MyApps

MyApps is divided into 5 different tabs:

  • All : On this page you can see the advertised rules of all different types.
  • Available Actions : This page lists all "general" operational rules.
  • Available Software : This page provides access to all packages that can be installed on the local device.
  • Installed Software : This page shows all rules of any type that were applied/used on the local device.
  • Quick Links : On this page you can see all rules providing direct links to the Internet or intranet.

MyApps also provides you with a search functionality. You can search for specific rules in these pages by entering the first or all letters of the rule into the search box above the tabs. The list of rules of the respective page will then be reduced to those matching the search.

The graphics representing the rules provide a number of different information and possibilities:

If you are using Google Chrome or Firefox you need to have the LocalLink add-on installed on the local devices to open a browser on a file share. In this case you need to right-click the link and then select the Open Link in Local Context menu open with the respective submenu item where you want to open it, that is in this tab, a new tab or a new window.

Note:

Safari does not support links to file shares.
