Software Distribution use case
The goals of the Software Distribution use case are:
- Policy-driven software distribution
- Highest first-time success rate
- Secure communications
- Highly efficient transport
The following diagram shows the flow of information and the components involved in the use case. The steps that follow the diagram define the abbreviations used in the diagram.
Software Distribution can be accomplished by three related use cases that can be performed at different times or consecutively.
- The TrueSight Orchestration operator uses the TrueSight Orchestration Console to add software to the TrueSight Orchestration Depot.
- The operator defines a TrueSight Orchestration package that includes the software as well as other information as needed. The package is stored in the Depot with the software.
- The operator schedules a job to deploy the package on a managed server. TrueSight Orchestration copies the software from the Depot to the server and performs the installation.
The use of the TrueSight Orchestration Advanced File Server/Repeater allows for efficient and secure software installation over a WAN. The strong RBAC capabilities of TrueSight Orchestration ensure that only authorized users can create a package in the Depot. RBAC also ensures that only authorized users can schedule a distribution on a server. Through the use of TrueSight Orchestration smart groups, software distribution can be controlled based on the business-level policies to which servers comply.
