Use case: Adhoc Job execution

In TrueSight Automation Console, apart from creating and executing patching operations and vulnerability operations, IT operators can create their own remediation scripts or templates using NSH Script (Network Shell script), that can be used to execute remediation operations for missing patches and vulnerabilities. The NSH scripts are defined in a command line interface, which can be used locally to execute specific remediation operations. These operations and the operation templates are created in TrueSight Automation Console and are categorized under Adhoc Job Selections in the Operations dashboard.

Adhoc Job operations are created based on the following job types in TrueSight Server Automation end point:

  • By using a NSH Script 
  • Deploy operation: Using BLCLI (BMC BladeLogic Command Line Interface package or BLPackage) commands within an NSH script
  • Execute a Batch operation (by including set of servers)

Operations

Adding an adhoc operation

Scenario

Otto Operator, an IT Operator in ABC Limited manages a network of UNIX and Windows machines. To remediate risks on them, Otto Operator will need to create and execute remediation operations. Other than Patch operations and Vulnerability operations, he can create his own remediation content using NSH scripts and execute it on specific servers accordingly.

For example, by using the NSH (Network Shell) script, he can perform remediation activities on multiple remote hosts from a single machine. Otto Operator can just use the NSH commands to write new remediation scripts or modify existing operation templates (that are available in Deploy folder in TrueSight Server Automation). By using the Add Operation functionality in TrueSight Automation Console, Otto Operator creates a Adhoc Operation to execute remediation actions on servers in TrueSight Server Automation.

The Adhoc Jobs created are stored in the Deploy folder in TrueSight Server Automation
