Synthetic Metric Rules - A Comparison

Synthetic Metric Rules was introduced in TrueSight App Visibility version 10.7.00 and was significantly enhanced in version 11.3.01. This page compares and describes the major changes in the synthetic metric rules between the two combinations (10.7.00 and 11.0.00 versus 11.3.01 and 11.3.02).

Synthetic Metric Rules Comparison between 10.7.00 and 11.0.00 versus 11.3.01 and 11.3.02

10.7.00 and 11.0.00

11.3.01 and 11.3.02

Only single metric and a single location in a rule.

A rule can include several metrics and several locations. That is, a rule can comprise multiple metrics with an OR or AND logical operator in between.

Evaluates a single metric and generates only one event per metric. The same metric cannot be configured in multiple rules of the same level.

All custom rules are evaluated and may generate multiple events at a given time.

There may be multiple events for the same metric.

The event includes the error messages.

The event does not include a specific error messages, but only the impacted metrics and locations.

A rule may be generated on a single problem in multiple metrics and locations and on several executions.

Solution: Use the link to the App Visibility violations of the events. It lists all the violations for the event duration.

Supports different consecutive values per severity (Minor or Critical).

Violation Frequency is defined at the rule level (unlike in 10.7.00 where the consecutive is defined at the severity level). You can do the following actions:

  1. Define the Impacted Execution Cycle same as the Total Execution Cycles to get the same behavior as in version 10.7.00.
  2. Define two separate rules, one for minor severity and another for critical severity to get a different Violation Frequency for each severity.

The rule is not cross locations. It can be either any location or a specific location.

A rule can be cross locations i.e. All Locations (At least 100%), At least 75%, At least 50%, At least 25%, Custom Percentage, Custom Selection.

From the TrueSight console, select Configuration > Synthetic Metric Rules. From the action menu, select Create Rule or to edit an existing rule, select Edit Rule against an existing rule. For more information, see Managing synthetic metric rules in version 10.7.00.
