Setting up and going live

This topic helps you get started if you have subscribed to BMC Helix Automation Console.

Task

1.

Complete the following tasks to access BMC Helix Automation Console and use endpoint managers for remediation.

2.

Set up users in the endpoint managers to enable data segregation

As an administrator, you can configure users and assign roles to them in the endpoint managers, such as TrueSight Server Automation or TrueSight Network Automation. Users can view data in BMC Helix Automation Console according to the roles assigned to them in these endpoint managers.

For the first time login, make sure you create a Service Account Role in the endpoint manager. For example, create a BLAdmins role in TrueSight Server Automation.

You must make sure to create roles with the same name in the BMC Helix portal.

For more information, see User roles and permissions.

3.

Log in to BMC Helix Automation Console by using BMC Helix Portal.

  1. From a supported browser, enter the customer tenant URL to access the console.
  2. Enter valid BMC Helix Single Sign-On credentials.
  3. Click Login to access the BMC Helix Portal.
  4. Click on the BMC Helix Automation Console tile.
4.

Set up users and user groups in BMC Helix Portal, and assign specific roles to them.

As an administrator, you can configure role‑based access control (RBAC) in BMC Helix Portal to delegate access permissions to users and user groups. RBAC defines the functions each role can access and the specific capabilities assigned to those roles.

You must make sure to create roles with the same name as those created in the endpoint manager.

Important: For the first time login, make sure you create a Service Account Role in BMC Helix Portal. For example, create a BLAdmins role if you have configured the TrueSight Server Automation endpoint manager. Then you must assign this role to the Tenant Admin user.

For more information, see Roles and permissions for BMC Helix Portal.

5.

Configure the TrueSight Server Automation connector in BMC Helix Automation Console.

When your account is created, you receive the URL and the credentials to log on to the BMC Helix Portal. By using the Helix Single Sign-On credentials, log on and click the BMC Helix Automation Console tile to configure the TrueSight Server Automation connector.

Run the TrueSight Server Automation connector in your environment to make sure that the connection between Server Automation and Automation Console is established. The connector ensures that Automation Console receives notifications even if the Server Automation application is in an air-gapped environment.

For details, see Configuring the TrueSight Server Automation connector.

6.

Configure the TrueSight Network Automation connector in BMC Helix Automation Console.

When your account is created, you receive the URL and the credentials to log on to BMC Helix Portal. By using the Helix Single Sign-On credentials, log on and click the BMC Helix Automation Console tile to configure the TrueSight Network Automation connector.

Run the TrueSight Network Automation connector in your environment to make sure that the connection between the application server and BMC Helix Automation Console is established. The connector ensures that BMC Helix Automation Console receives notifications even if the application server is in an air-gapped environment.

Important: For existing customers upgrading to version 26.1 of BMC Helix Automation Console, make sure that you re-download and run the connector to avoid errors.

For details, see Configuring the TrueSight Network Automation connector.

7.

(Optional) Configure the TrueSight Orchestration connector.

BMC Helix Automation Console supports integration with BMC Remedy ITSM for the creation and approval of change requests for remediation operations. Change automation is available for vulnerability operations only. To enable change automation, you must configure the TrueSight Orchestration connector and ensure that other prerequisite tasks are complete.

See Configuring the TrueSight Orchestration connector.

8.

(Optional) Configure the BMC Discovery connector.

BMC Helix Automation Console supports integration with BMC Discovery to find assets in your environment that are not mapped in TrueSight Server Automation, and are not scanned for vulnerabilities. By using this information, you can then scan the assets to identify vulnerabilities and remediate them.

See Configuring the BMC Discovery connector.

9.

(Optional) Configure the Tenable.sc connector.

BMC Helix Automation Console supports integration with Tenable.sc to identify vulnerabilities related to security risks across your IT infrastructure. Automation Console automatically imports the scan files containing vulnerabilities from Tenable.sc and maps these vulnerabilities to the remediation content. You can create operations to remediate the vulnerabilities.

Important: For existing customers upgrading to version 26.1 of BMC Helix Automation Console, make sure that you re-download and run the connector to avoid errors.

See Configuring-the-Tenable-sc-connector.

10.

(Optional) Configure the Scanner connector.

BMC Helix Automation Console supports integration with Tenable.io to identify vulnerabilities related to security risks across your IT infrastructure. Automation Console automatically imports the scan files containing vulnerabilities from Tenable.io and maps these vulnerabilities to the remediation content. You can create operations to remediate the vulnerabilities.

Important: For existing customers upgrading to version 26.1 of BMC Helix Automation Console, make sure that you re-download and run the connector to avoid errors.

See Configuring-the-Scanner-Connector.

11.
