Overview of the enhancements

This section describes the enhancements.

Enhancements to BMC AMI Ops Automation for Batch ThruPut

This section summarizes the enhancements to BMC AMI Ops Automation for Batch ThruPut:

  • You can use a new JAL statement to flag individual jobs as exempt from Online Performance Protection constraints. For more information, see SLM SET NO_OPP.

  • A ThruPut Manager Custom Option now controls the Job Scheduler Intelligence support for Broadcom ESP. You set this option by supplying an initialization statement or issuing an operator command. Support for ESP must now be explicitly enabled. For more information about ESP configuration requirements, see 7.3.9. Broadcom ESP Workload Automation.

  • ThruPut Manager now dynamically installs the supplied exit for DFSMShsm (ARCRPEXT) by using a unique ThruPut Manager name, and automatically integrates with any preexisting ARCRPEXT module supplied by the installation or a software product. There is no requirement for additional setup or installation activities, such as renaming or relinking load modules. ThruPut Manager now automatically activates the exit in DFSMShsm.

Enhancements to all editions of ThruPut Manager

This section summarizes the enhancements to all editions of ThruPut Manager:

  • You can now smoothly migrate from version 22.4 BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager Standard Edition to BMC AMI Ops Automation for Batch Thruput (AE) as follows:

    1. Obtain and install the required license from BMC
    2. Configure a new ThruPut Manager TMPARM parameter in the JES2 initialization deck
    3. Perform a re-IPL. For more information, see EDITION=AE.

  • ThruPut Manager now generates a new SMF record with comprehensive job data at the end of each job run. Using a ThruPut Manager utility program running under z/OS, you can generate a CSV format file from these new SMF records. This file is suitable for download to a personal computer for analysis by using Microsoft Excel or other software. For more information, see the following topics:

Special handling of DFSMShsm exit ARCRPEXT

Important

This section applies only to existing ThruPut Manager installations, not to new installations.

These are onetime special instructions that only apply to the installation of PTF TMT8106. Going forward, nothing further will be required.

In installations of BMC AMI Ops Automation for Batch Thruput or BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager Automation Edition+, PTF TMT8106 (SPE2401) dynamically installs the ThruPut Manager DFSMShsm exit ARCRPEXT by using a unique ThruPut Manager load module name. Therefore, applying PTF TMT8106 deletes any earlier version of ARCRPEXT in the ThruPut Manager load library.

If you copy the ThruPut Manager SMP/E target load library to another load library that is in your LNKLST, you should delete ARCRPEXT from that target load library. This applies also to installations of BMC Compuware ThruPut Manager Standard Edition (SE), but SE doesn't use the exit code. The exit is not dynamically installed in SE installations.

Additional onetime special handling is required if you have another instance of ARCRPEXT provided by a BMC AMI Storage product, another software vendor, or if you have written your own exit code. There are two possible scenarios:

  • If you used the instructions provided in the ThruPut Manager install data set in member @UM005 for ThruPut Manager User Modification 5, you will have relinked a copy of ARCRPEXT containing both implementations of the exit. In this scenario, delete that ARCRPEXT module. Then install the version of ARCRPEXT that is not supplied with ThruPut Manager in a DFSMShsm STEPLIB or a LNKLST library.
  • If you renamed the ThruPut Manager ARCRPEXT and provided that new name to the other software product, delete that renamed copy of the ThruPut Manager ARCRPEXT and remove the specification from the configuration of the other software product.

When dynamically installed, the new ThruPut Manager DFSMShsm exit implementation always gets control first. If it then detects an instance of ARCRPEXT in a STEPLIB for DFSMShsm or a LNKLST library, it loads it and always passes it control.

ThruPut Manager now automatically enables the RP (ARCRPEXT) exit in DFSMShsm when DFSMShsm finishes initialization. It is not necessary, although not harmful, to activate this exit in the DFSMShsm initialization parameters. If you need to refresh any other instance of ARCRPEXT installed by another software product (such as BMC AMI Storage), follow the procedure in the IBM documentation: use MODIFY (F) commands to DFSMShsm, to issue SETSYS EXITOFF(RP) followed by SETSYS EXITON(RP). ThruPut Manager ensures that the new version of the other ARCRPEXT is loaded.
