Viewing and modifying information about the TrueSight Server Automation connection

You can establish connection to a TrueSight Server Automation application server by providing the connection details during the installation process. Or, you can do this after installation from the Connectors tab on the Administration page.

Afterwards, TrueSight Server Automation endpoint administrators can modify the depot paths, job paths, and deploy templates, but they cannot modify any information that defines the connection. Other endpoint administrators can set up and delete the connection to TrueSight Server Automation endpoint manager.

This topic includes the following sections related to connections:

Default values for a connection

To make it easier to create operations in TrueSight Vulnerability Management, an endpoint manager can define values for:

  • Default depot locations and job paths—When you define a Remediation operation that creates job or depot items in TrueSight Server Automation, the items are placed in these default depot and job locations. Default values defined at the security group level take precedence over default locations defined at the connection level. Setting default values for jobs and depot items means operators do not have to manually select a folder when they create operations, thus shielding them from some complexity.
  • Deploy templates—When you define a Remediation operation that generates Patch Analysis jobs, you can specify a Deploy template that is based on an advanced Deploy job, which enables you to schedule the Simulate, Stage, and Commit phases of the job individually.

Note

When specifying a Deploy template, select a Deploy Job based on a BLPackage. You cannot use a Deploy Job based on an executable software package or a File Deploy Job.

BMC recommends using a job specifically designed to define deployment options. If you choose to use a live Deploy Job as a Deploy template, scheduling for that job could be changed inadvertently in TrueSight Server Automation, which could cause operations in TrueSight Vulnerability Management to use incorrect scheduling.

To view and modify information

  1. As a TrueSight Server Automation endpoint administrator, click the drop-down menu by your user name (at top right). Then, select Administration
    The Administration page opens.
  2. Click the Connectors tab.
A list of existing connections opens.
  3. On the row for Server Automation connection, click the connector name link.
The connector information appears on the Connector Details page.
  4. Click Back to Connectors.

  5. On the row for Server Automation connection, click Edit the current connector .
    The Update Connector page opens.

  6. Enter or update the following information.

    OptionDescription
    Name

Name of the TrueSight Server Automation connector.

Connector TypeRead only: The type of endpoint manager—in this case server automation.
DescriptionOptional descriptive text for the connection.
    Target Host

Specifies the name or IP address of the application server in TrueSight Server Automation to which you are connected.

    Target Port

Identifies the port used for web service communication with the Application Server. Typically, the Application Server is configured to use 9843 for its web service communication port.

Connector Admin Server Automation Role NameRead only: Specifies the role in TrueSight Server Automation to which the administrator belongs. The administrator is identified during the configuration process.
Default Depot PathThe Default Depot Path option specifies the location in TrueSight Server Automation where TrueSight Vulnerability Management stores depot items it creates automatically. When any user who belongs to this security group performs an operation that generates a depot item, the item is stored by default in this location. To specify a depot folder, click Browse and use the folder graphic to navigate to a location. Then click OK.
Default Job PathThe Default Job Path option specifies a location in TrueSight Server Automation where TrueSight Vulnerability Management stores jobs it creates automatically. When any user who belongs to this security group performs an operation that generates a job, the job is stored in this location by default. To specify a job folder, click Browse and use the folder graphic to navigate to a location. Then click OK.
    Deploy Templates

The Deploy Templates option specifies Deploy jobs in TrueSight Server Automation.

When you specify a deploy template, you identify a corresponding advanced BLPackage Deploy Job in TrueSight Server Automation that has settings you want to use in TrueSight Vulnerability Management. The settings for the Deploy jobs you specify can be used to define scheduling options for Patch Analysis Jobs that are created automatically as part of auto-remediation processes. BMC recommends that you create a stand-alone advanced Deploy Job that is only used as a deploy template. Having a dedicated Deploy Job prevents changes to a live Deploy Job in TrueSight Server Automation from affecting operations in TrueSight Vulnerability Management that are based on the Deploy Job. For more information about creating advanced BLPackage Deploy jobs, see Creating a Deploy Job Open link in the TrueSight Server Automation documentation.

To choose a template, click Add and browse to a job. Select it and click OK.  Ctrl-click to select multiple jobs and then click OK.

  7. Click Update Connector.
