Saving the text log file
When you use either the Scheduler component of Manager or the Windows Task Scheduler to run your script, Automator produces two log files.
- The script log file contains information, warning, and error messages that are overwritten with each run. It is a binary file, which only Automator can view.
- The text log file contains the same information, warning, and error messages that are appended with each run. Review the text log with a text editor, such as Microsoft Windows Notepad.
If you run scripts through the weekend or over holidays, you can check only the most recent run. Use Append to Log to save log information.
- Select Options > Log File.
The Log File dialog box is displayed.- To use the text log name (default extension .log) listed in the Log to Text File (When Run From Scheduler) option, go to Step 5.
- To use another text log, click Browse to open the Select Log File dialog box. Go to Step 3.
Do one of the following:
- Enter the name of the text log.
- From the Text log selection list, click a text log.
Use the other options on this dialog box to manipulate drives, directories, and file names as necessary.
- Click OK to record your choices and return to the Log File dialog box.
- Click Append to Log to append each run in the text log.
- Click OK to exit.
Printing script logs
With the script log open, there are two ways to print a script log:
