Using

Reports are generated from data that is derived from the TrueSight Server Automation database.

To view data in reports, you must first set up data collection in TrueSight Server Automation. To understand the data flow between TrueSight Server Automation, TrueSight Server Automation - Data Warehouse, and TrueSight Smart Reporting, see the Architecture diagram.

You can run out-of-the-box reports. You can also perform the following actions:

Report types

TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation provides the following types of reports:

  • Out-of-the-box reports: These reports are delivered with TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation.
  • Custom reports: These reports are model-based reports in which the data, presentation type (chart or table), filter criteria, data items to display, and data grouping and sorting are all customizable. For information about creating custom reports, see Creating custom reports.

Overview of the domains available in the reports

The following table provides an overview of the domains available in TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation.

Data domains

Domain folderDescription
Command Usage

Contains data associated with the servers being used at a data center, such as information about the users accessing those servers.

Command Usage reports allow you to monitor the execution of various commands on servers and when those commands have been executed.

Compliance

Contains data associated with the Compliance Jobs in TrueSight Server Automation and a set of statistical metrics based on the results of running these jobs.

Compliance reports provide detailed information about the results of Compliance Jobs for servers in your data center.

Inventory

Contains data associated with TrueSight Server Automation Snapshot Jobs. These jobs gather inventory information about a collection of server configuration objects that are defined in the templates associated with the jobs.

You can use Inventory reports to determine the hardware and software objects that are present in your server environment. Several reports provide information about virtual machines in your environment.

BMC recommends that you use the inventory templates supplied by BMC to capture inventory data. These templates capture the relevant data for assets without impacting the performance of the product. For information about downloading templates, see Installing Inventory templates and other scripts.

Note: BMC recommends that you do not modify these templates. If you want to add additional assets or attributes, make a copy of the templates and modify the copy to include additional assets or attributes as required.

Job Activity

Contains a set of statistical metrics based on the results of running TrueSight Server Automation jobs.

Job Activity reports provide data and statistical measurements related to all jobs that run in  TrueSight Server Automation.

Patching

Contains data associated with the TrueSight Server Automation Patch Analysis Jobs and a set of statistical metrics based on the results collected by these jobs.
Patch reports provide overview and detailed information about the vendor-recommended patches that are installed on or missing from the servers in a data center. You can use Patch reports to evaluate how well servers in your data center conform to vendor recommendations and to track patch policy compliance over time.

Reporting in multi-site deployments

TrueSight Smart Reporting for Server Automation can aggregate data across multiple TrueSight Server Automation sites. In the case of multiple sites, report authors might need to report on a subset of sites or allow report viewers to filter report results by site. Users with the GlobalReportAdmins role can view data from all sites in a multi-site installation. Other users can view data from the site to which their role has access.

The BladeLogic data model includes a site data column for several data groups, such as job, template, and server. This column enables you to create reports in which you can view site information and filter data by sites.
