Installing TrueSight Smart Reporting with SQL Server


Where you are in the Installation process:

To install TrueSight Smart Reporting with SQL Server

Do the following:

  1. Log in to the host computer where you want to install TrueSight Smart Reporting.
  2. On the host computer, ensure that you have Administrator privileges.
  3. Download the TrueSight Smart Reporting files on the host computer.
  4. Ensure that JDK version 1.8 or a later version of 1.8 exists on the host computer, and the JAVA_HOME environment variable is set.
    If the JAVA_HOME variable is not set, do the following:
    1. Download and save the JDK executable file on the computer where you want to install TrueSight Smart Reporting.
    2. Run tun the JDK executable file to complete the installation.
    3. Open the Windows explorer, and right-click This PC.
    4. Click Properties > Advanced system settings.
    5. Click the Environment Variables button. 
    6. Under System variables, click New.
    7. In the New System Variable window, add the following details:
      • In the Variable name field, add JAVA_HOME
      • In the Variable value field, browse to the location where the JDK executable file is saved. For example, C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152.
    8. Select the Path variable, and click Edit.
    9. In the Edit environment variable window, click New, and type %JAVA_HOME%\bin.
    10. Click OK to save your changes.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • (Windows) Launch the TrueSight Smart Reporting  installer from the location where you have downloaded the installation files. The TrueSight Smart Reporting is an executable jar file that you can run by using Java.
    • (Linux) Run the following command:
      "java -jar TrueSight-SmartReporting-11.3.01.jar -gui”
  6. In the Language Selection box, select a language for installation, and click Next.
  7. Read the information on the next page, and click Next.
  8. On the licence agreement page, select I accept the terms of this licence agreement. and click Next.
  9. On the General Options page, do the following:
    1. Enter the web server port number. The default number is 8443.
    2. If you want to install TrueSight Smart Reporting as a Windows service, select the Install Windows service check box.
      Installing TrueSight Smart Reporting as a Windows service enables it to automatically run when the server starts.
    3. Click Next.
  10. On the Truesight Smart Reporting Database Details page, select Microsoft SQL Server as the database type, and click Next.
  11. Do the following:
    1. In the Database Server Location area:
      • Type the server host and server port.
      • Select an instance type and type the database name.
        If you are creating a new database, select the Create new database check box.
    2. In the Authentication Details area, select an authentication mode.
    3. In the Database User area, enter a user name and password for the database user, and select the Create new user check box.
    4. In the Administrator User area, type the user name password for the database administrator.
  12. Click Next. On the Validate Connection details window, click Yes.
  13. You can see the success message. Click OK.
  14. Browse to the path for installation, and click Next.
    If you are installing in a custom directory, manually add the name of the directory to the installation path. For example, if you want to install in the C:\Program Files\TrueSight Smart Reporting directory, browse to C:\Program Files, and add \TrueSight Smart Reporting manually to the installation path. 
  15. On the confirmation message, click OK.
  16. On the next window, you can view the TrueSight Smart Reporting installation details. Click Install to complete the installation process.
  17. On Windows, start the TrueSightSmartReporting service and change its startup type to Automatic.
    NoteIn non-English locales, the TrueSightSmartReporting service appears as the Yellowfin service.
  18. On Linux, give the execute permissions to the startup.sh file by using one of the following commands:
    • ./startup.sh
    • sh startup.sh

Now that you have successfully installed Smart Reporting, install Report Engine with SQL Server.
