Notification of action needed for users of TrueSight Server Automation Microsoft Windows Patching

BMC Software is alerting users of BMC Server Automation that they must upgrade their BMC Server Automation environment and the RSCD Agent on their Windows target servers to ensure the continued functioning of Windows Patch Management.

Versions of BMC Server Automation prior to 8.9.03 use version 9.1 of the Shavlik SDK for Windows Patch Management. Ivanti has announced the end-of-life for this version of the Shavlik SDK as September 30, 2019.

If you are currently using 8.9.03 or later, no further action is required.

The BMC Server Automation versions listed below use version 9.3 of the Shavlik SDK, which is fully supported by Ivanti. If you have not already upgraded the BMC Server Automation environment and Windows target server RSCD agents to a version listed below you must complete the upgrade before September 30, 2019.

Once the BMC Server Automation environment is upgraded the following actions must be performed for Windows Patch Management to continue to function:

  • All Windows RSCD agents must be also be upgraded to a version listed in the table below.
  • A Catalog Update Job must be run in each Windows Patch Catalog.

The following BMC Server Automation components must be upgraded to one of the versions noted in the table above:

  • Application Servers/Database
  • BMC Server Automation consoles
  • FileServer RSCD agent
  • All Windows RSCD agents which are targets of BMC Server Automation Windows Patch Management.


After upgrading the BMC Server Automation environment, you must also upgrade the RSCD agent on your Windows target servers to a version listed in the above table for Windows Patch Management to function.

For example, if you update the environment to 8.9.04 and the version of the Windows RSCD agents are 8.9.02, Windows Patch Management will not work. The RSCD agents must be updated to 8.9.04 in this case.

Snapshot, Audit, Compliance, and Live Browse of the 'Hotfixes' node will also not work until both the BMC Server Automation environment and RSCD agent are upgraded.
