Linking and unlinking products and applications from software titles (2021 Release 02)

You can use Track-It! to link products and applications to software titles. You can view products and applications linked to a software title in the Linked Applications section in the Software Title form. You can only link applications to software titles with the Evaluation Type as Scanned Applications, but you can link both products and applications to software titles with the Evaluation Type as Software Catalog. 

To link a product or application to a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select the Software Licenses module.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Linked Applications section, open the menu and select Link. 
4. In the selection window, select the product or application from the generated list or search for the application by name from the search bar at the top of the window. 
   You can select multiple applications from the list.

5. Click Link.
   The selected product or application is linked to the software title and the linking of the product or application is also updated in BCM (BMC Client Management). The status of the software title and the license consumption metrics are updated on the Software Title form. All the assets in Track-It! on which the product or application is installed are linked to the software title.
   

   Important

   • To view the assets on which a linked application is installed, double-click the application. The Application Details window displays the following asset details:
     • Asset ID
     • Asset name
     • Owner name
     • Location
     • Department
     • Track-It! Asset Type
     • Client Management Type
     • Compliance
     • Is Authorized
   • You can also click Preview in the Linked Applications section, to view the Application Details window.

   • For any product linked to a software title, the Application Details window is not displayed and the Preview option is disabled.

   
   

To unlink a product or application from a software title

1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select the Software Licenses module.
2. On the Software Licenses page, double-click to open the software title.
3. In the Software Title form, in the Linked Applications section, select the products or applications to be unlinked.
   You can select multiple applications from the list.
   
4. Open the menu and select Unlink. 

5. In the warning window, click Yes to unlink the applications.
   The software title is updated and the unlinking of products or applications is also updated in BCM (BMC Client Management). The status of the software title and the license consumption metrics are updated on the Software Title form. All the assets in Track-It! on which the product or application is installed are unlinked from the software title.

   Important

   • The Unlink option is disabled if no products or applications are selected or when there are no applications listed in the Linked Applications section.
   • After you unlink a program or application from a software title, it reappears under the list of available programs and applications.
   • If you change the Evaluation Type of a software title, Track-It! generates a warning stating that changing the Evaluation Type unlinks all the linked applications from the software title. If you proceed to save the software title, all the linked programs and applications are unlinked from the software title.
