Installing in Evaluation mode

This topic explains the installation process for Track-It! by using an existing or a new database server in Evaluation mode. Evaluation mode is a ready-to-use version with sample data that requires minimal user interaction during installation. Evaluation mode comes with a 30-day evaluation license. Before you begin the installation, ensure that all the prerequisites are met. For more information, see Preparing for installation.

To perform the installation by using an existing database server

To install Track-It! using an existing database server, perform the following steps:

1. As an administrator, log on to the system where you want to install Track-It!.
2. Based on the release you want to install, click the following link to download the installer file to a preferred location:
   2022 Release 01
3. Double-click the installer to run it.
4. The Track-It! year Setup window is displayed.

5. Click Install to extract the installation files.
   By default, the extraction location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Track-It! releaseNumber.buildNumber Setup.

   Example

   For Track-It! 2020 Release 02, the default extraction location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Track-It! 20.20.02.buildNumber Setup.

6. (2020 Release 02) (New installations only) On the Installation Information window, read the instructions and then select the I understand check box.
7. Click Next.
8. To begin the installation, in the Track-It! dialog box, click Yes.
9. (Optional) If you want to install Track-It! in a language other than English, click the down arrow and select a language.
10. On the Welcome to the setup wizard for Track-It! page, click Next.
11. On the License Agreement page, click Yes.
12. On the Setup Type page, select the Evaluation mode and click Next.
13. On the Database Server page, select the Use existing SQL Server option.
14. On the Create New Database page, enter the server details:
    1. In the SQL Server Name field, enter the server name.
    2. In the Database Name field, enter a database name.
    3. To enable server to dynamically select a port, select the Dynamically determine port check box.
       By default, port 80 is used.
    4. (Optional) If you clear the Dynamically determine port check box, in the Port Number field, enter a custom port value.
    5. In the Administration Login section, select one of the following options and click Next:
       • If you select SQL Server authentication option, in the User Name field, enter sa.
         The sa user can login using the default password.
       • If you select Windows Authentication option, enter your Windows account credentials.
    6. Click Next.

15. In the Password field, enter a password for the Track-it! database administrator user (_SMSYSADMIN_). Re-enter the same password in the Confirm field.
    This password is assigned to both the Track-It! database administrator user (_SMSYSADMIN_) and BCM Admin user. The password must contain at least eight characters. It must not contain multibyte characters, spaces, and the following special characters:

    1. • [

       • {

       • }

       • (

       • )

       • ,

       • :

       • ?

       • *

       • !

       • @

       • ‘

       • “

     This Track-it! database user is granted the database administrative privileges.

16. On the Start Copying Files page, review your settings and click Next to start the installation process.
    The installation process might take some time.

    Note

    After Track-It! is installed successfully, you must restart you server.

17. On the next page, make a note of your login credentials, select the I acknowledge and understand this check box and click Next.
18. On the Thank you for choosing Track-It! page, select the URL check box to launch Track-It! and click Finish.
19. After the login for the first time, you must change your password.

To perform the installation by using a new database server

To install Track-It! using a new database server, perform the following steps:

1. As an administrator, log on to the system where you want to install Track-It!.
2. Based on the release you want to install, click the following link to download the installer file to a preferred location:
   2022 Release 01
3. Double-click the installer to run it.
4. The Track-It! year Setup window is displayed.

5. Click Install to extract the installation files.
   By default, the extraction location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Track-It! releaseNumber.buildNumber Setup.

   Example

   For Track-It! 2020 Release 02, the default extraction location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Track-It! 20.20.02.buildNumber Setup.

6. (2020 Release 02)(New installations only) On the Installation Information window, read the instructions and then select the I understand check box.
7. Click Next.
8. To begin the installation, in the Track-It! dialog box, click Yes.
9. If you want to install Track-It! in a language other than English, click the down arrow and select a language.
10. On the Welcome to the setup wizard for Track-It! page, click Next.
11. On the License Agreement page, click Yes.
12. On the Setup Type page, select the Evaluation mode and click Next.
13. On the Database Server page, select Download and install Microsoft SQL Express 2017 with Advanced Services.
    Ensure that you have a minimum of 2 GB space on your hard drive. Also, you must have an internet connection on your server to download the Microsoft SQL Express setup.

14. After the server setup is downloaded, on the SQL Express Admin User password page, enter a strong password for your SQL Express instance, confirm the password, and click Next.

    Note

    The password must contain at least eight characters. It must not contain multibyte characters, spaces, and the following special characters:

    • [

    • ]

    • {

    • }

    • (

    • )

    • ,

    • :

    • ?

    • *

    • !

    • @

    • ‘

    • “

    The Microsoft SQL Express installation might take some time. The same password is used for the Track-It! database administrator user (_SMSYSADMIN_). This Track-It! database user receives the database administrative privileges.

15. On the Start Copying Files page, review your settings and if you are satisfied with the settings, click Next to start the installation process.
    The installation process might take some time.

    Note

    After Track-It! is installed successfully, you must restart your server.

16. On the next page, make a note of your login credentials, select the I acknowledge and understand this check box and click Next.
17. On the Thank you for choosing Track-It! page, select the required URL check box to launch Track-It! and click Finish
18. After the login for the first time, you must change your password.
