Synchronizing assets

You can use Asset Synchronization to define a schedule to synchronize the discovered assets from BMC Client Management. By synchronizing your assets, you can:

  • Synchronize the discovered assets and their audited information from BMC Client Management
  • Initiate an immediate synchronization of assets
  • Schedule asset synchronization to run at a specific time of the day
  • Automatically set the asset owner to the last logged in user of the asset detected by BMC Client Management

The Asset Synchronization page also provides sync details for you to examine such as the last successful sync date, the number of new assets discovered, and the number of updated assets since the last sync.

When executing a synchronization of assets, you can optionally set the asset owner for each asset.  This option enables you to

Before you begin

  • Ensure BMC Client Management is configured.
  • Ensure that the assets in the network have been discovered by the BMC Client Management scanner.

To schedule asset synchronization

  1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu   and select Configuration.
  2. Click Asset Management.
  3. Click Asset Synchronization.
    The Asset Synchronization page is displayed.
  4. On the Sync Schedule section, perform the following actions:
    1. Select Enable Scheduled Asset Sync.
    2. On Daily at, enter a time to schedule the asset synchronization.
  5. On the Set Asset Owner section, perform one of the following actions:
    • Select Do not set Asset Owner if you do not want Track-It! to set the asset owner.
  6. Click Save.

The page displays the synchronization results with details about the number of new assets discovered and number of assets that are updated .

To manually synchronize assets

You can manually execute a synchronization of assets at any time. Initiate a manual synchronization of assets from BMC Client Management to Track-It!

  1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu   and select Configuration.
  2. Click Asset Management.
  3. Click Asset Synchronization.
  4. On the Set Asset Owner section, perform one of the following actions:
    • Select Do not set Asset Owner if you do not want Track-It! to set the asset owner.
  5. Click Sync Now.

The page displays the synchronization results with details about the number of new assets discovered number of updated assets.

To automatically associate requestors as the owners of audited assets

You can automatically associate particular assets to requestors.  In order to complete this task, the following conditions apply:

  • The assets you want to associate are devices that are utilized by a specific Windows User ID.
  • The assets you want to associate have been audited at least one time.
  • The Self Service Information of the requestors you want to associate have Use Windows Authentication selected and contain a valid Windows User ID.

  1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu    and select Configuration.
  2. Click Asset Management.
  3. Click Asset Synchronization.
  4. On the Set Asset Owner section, select Set Asset Owner.
  5. Click Sync Now.
    Track-It! performs a snyc that includes populating the Primary User (Owner) Information for each asset where the following conditions exist:
    • BCM identifies a primary Windows User ID utilizing the asset
    • A matching Windows User ID is discovered for a specific requestor 
    When both conditions are present, Track-It! populates the asset's Primary User (Owner) Information with the requestor's name.
