Searching for IBM WebSphere WMQ and/or TIBCO EMS objects

The search field, in the top right corner of the User Console, allows you to search for IBM WebSphere WMQ and/or TIBCO EMS objects in your MainView Middleware Administrator (MVMA) environment. In order for objects to be searchable, their connection needs to have indexing switched on.

Search results contain these details: object name, type, product namespace ('wmq' for IBM WebSphere MQ or 'ems' for TIBCO EMS) and the name of their master object (such as Queue Manager or TIBCO EMS Server). From the search result links you can go to the object or master object's attributes, as well as see the object in a summary view.

You can also run an advanced search, which enables you to pinpoint more accurately the objects you are searching for through a variety of queries. You can also limit searches to specific projects and connections, and also save the queries you define for future use. See Performing an Advanced Search (below) for more information.

See also Accessing objects.

Performing an Advanced Search

Use the advanced search feature to search for specific objects, such as objects that are in a particular state or that have a particular attribute value. An example search could be to find all queues that are setup for triggering, or to find queues with a depth > 0.

You can also save these advanced search queries and use (and edit) them for future searches. See Viewing Stored Queries below.

To run an advanced search

  1. Click advanced in the Global Actions Bar. The Advanced Search Details form is displayed.
  2. Select from one of the following search options:
    1. Simple (displayed by default): Use this search option by first selecting to search either WMQ or EMS objects. To further refine your query, select an object from the drop-down list to the right (including Queues and Channels). Additionally, add a name, or part of it (the wildcard characters * and ? are supported for name patterns), for the object, and add a condition from the Where drop-down list. For example, as shown below, you can select to search for Processes in a particular connection to an IBM WebSphere MQ queue manager.

    2. Compound: Select this option if you want to add more than one condition to your search query. First select a Namespace (WMQ or EMS), then an Object Type (such as Queue Managers). Add a project and connection if required, as well as object names (or part of an object's name - note that the wildcard characters * and ? are supported). Select the checkbox if you want to Include System Objects.

Then add conditions by clicking the Add Condition (plus) icon. In the displayed dialog, define a condition as required from the drop-down lists, and then click Add. The condition is added to the table of conditions below the Compound Conditions query form. Note that conditions are read-only once created, so in order to modify a condition you need to delete the condition and create a new one. Use the Delete Condition button to delete individual conditions, or the Clear All Conditions button to delete all conditions. By default, the query will match ALL the conditions you defined; to ensure the query matches ANY of the conditions, click Match Any. The query string displayed in the text box will reflect your selection with AND or OR statements between conditions.

    3. Free Form: Select this option to define your own search query. Note that you can expand on queries you may have added in the Simple or Compound search forms (see above) by selecting the relevant Update from option.

      Note

The query string created by the attributes selected in Simple and Compound search forms is displayed in real-time as they are selected in the text box below the search form.
  3. Optional - Click the Save icon in the generic toolbar to save the search query parameters for future use. In the displayed Save Query As dialog, enter a name for the query and click OK. See Viewing Stored Queries below for information on viewing and using these stored search queries. You can also click the Clear Fields icon to start your search again.
  4. Click the Search icon in the generic toolbar. The search results that meet your query are displayed. Note that the Advanced Search Details form is collapsed; click the Advanced Search Details bar to display the search form again.
