Focus on IBM WebSphere MQ and TIBCO EMS

MainView Middleware Administrator (MVMA) focuses on using IBM WebSphere MQ (for managing queue managers) and TIBCO EMS (for managing servers). See the current supported versions of IBM WebSphere MQ and TIBCO EMS.

This document references the IBM MQ functions supported by MVMA as IBM MQ, but unless explicitly specified, these references apply to IBM MQ, the IBM MQ Appliance, and IBM WebSphere MQ.

IBM WebSphere MQ Focus

IBM WebSphere MQ provides for the management of queue managers. This means all queues and a set of relevant objects, from topics, subscriptions and listeners to processes, namelists, authentication and authority information, cluster status, etc.

The Navigation Panel in the MVMA Console supports all necessary WebSphere MQ functional objects - queue managers and their associated objects. It also includes objects for miscellaneous administrative tasks.

Note

Most administrative concepts and procedures in this space, except for TIBCO EMS Administration (see below), are geared to the IBM WebSphere MQ administrator.

TIBCO EMS Focus

TIBCO EMS provides for the management of servers. This means all objects included in an EMS server. Some of these are topics, durables, queues, stores, routes, and connections.

The Navigation Panel in the MVMA Console supports all necessary TIBCO EMS functional objects - servers and their associated objects. It also includes objects for miscellaneous administrative tasks.

Note

Some administrative concepts and procedures in this space are specific to the TIBCO EMS administrator. You should also note that the following features are not available when interacting with TIBCO EMS:

  • All Queue Manager Connections view
  • WebSphere MQ Queue Manager Dashboard view
  • Properties Filters
  • Import/Export capability
  • Ability to archive infrastructure
  • Status/Statistics views, such as Queue Statistics/Status, and Topic Status, are not available
  • Monitoring, including Eventing/Alerting
  • Save Message to Data with a selectable file format (zip, multiple, delimited)
  • Dead letter management
