BMC Test Drive - Start Your Engines
Test Drive gives you the opportunity to experience BMC Solutions without having to change anything in your enterprise environment.
Using BMC Compuware Topaz in our cloud-based Test Drive environment, you’ll:
- Experience AMI solutions in Db2 tools
- Visualize and understand data relationships
- Edit and debug source code
- Generate automated tests
- Build, test and deploy code
- Drive Continuous Integration within a DevOps pipeline
First Things First
- You should have received a welcome email from BMC Value & Solutions Engineering Director Tim Ceradsky that includes credentials to access to Test Drive for seven days. If you have any issues accessing Test Drive (or to extend your experience), please contact our Customer Solutions team.
- Please refer to the Test Drive FAQ before proceeding with your Test Drive experience.
- Unless your script directs you otherwise, when you arrive at the Compuware Topaz on AWS landing page click the Topaz Workbench icon (indicated by the red arrow):
If you will be using Test Drive to experience BMC Compuware products (indicated in the menu to the left), you must first complete the Getting Started script. If you will be experiencing BMC AMI products, you may skip the Getting Started script.

Enterprise Data Management
Use BMC Compuware Topaz for Enterprise Data and the BMC Compuware File-AID Data Editor to understand data relationships and manage various file types.
VSAM: Edit and manipulate VSAM data, compare files and visualize MVS relationships using powerful BMC Compuware Topaz for Enterprise Data features.
IMS: Edit and manipulate IMS data and visualize IMS databases using BMC Compuware Topaz for Enterprise Data Editor.
Relational Data: Edit and manipulate SQL Server, Oracle or Db2 data using BMC Compuware Topaz for Enterprise Data Editor.
SQL Development: SPUFI-like ad-hoc tool to query and manipulate relational data.
Use BMC Compuware Topaz for Enterprise Data to disguise production data when moving it to a Test or Development environment.
Disguise Rules: Create a data privacy project and disguise rules to protect sensitive data such as names, SSNs, phone numbers, birthdates, emails, and more.
Composite Rules: Create a Composite Rule to handle First and Last Names combined into one field or column and execute the disguise rules against a table.
You may choose between the following to extract the data from either a SQL Server database or from z/OS Db2.
Related Extract with Disguise for z/OS Db2: Extract related data from multiple tables and apply disguise rules to protect sensitive data during the process.
Related Extract with Disguise for Distributed Data: Extract related data from multiple tables and apply disguise rules to protect sensitive data during the process.
Use BMC Compuware Abend-AID to help find the cause of program abends easily. Abend-AID provides tooling to assist the developer, saving time and money by pointing directly to the offending line(s) of code.
Batch COBOL Fault Diagnosis: Work with a sample Abend-AID for Batch report for an abending program written in COBOL.
Batch Assembler Fault Diagnosis: Work with a sample Abend-AID for Batch report for an abending program written in Assembler.
Batch PL/I Fault Diagnosis: Work with a sample Abend-AID for Batch report for an abending program written in PL/I.
CICS COBOL Fault Diagnosis: Work with a sample Abend-AID for CICS report for an abending program written in COBOL.
CICS PL/I Fault Diagnosis: Work with a sample Abend-AID for CICS report for an abending program written in PL/I.
Fault Diagnosis Advanced Topics 1: Work with Sample Abend-AID reports to show advanced capabilities
Fault Diagnosis Advanced Topics 2: Experience a number of advanced capabilities within Abend-AID including DB2 and WebSphere MQ.
Code Analysis and Debugging
Dynamically visualize applications with BMC Compuware Topaz for Program Analysis and intelligently edit and debug source code.
Create reusable test scenarios and run them independently with data stubs, regardless of data accessibility.
Unit Test: Walk through a set of scenarios to learn how BMC Compuware Total Test can be used to create unit tests by COBOL programmers to test specific routines in their programs.
Unit Test (CICS): This tutorial will introduce you to BMC Compuware Topaz for Total Test for rapid creation of COBOL CICS unit test cases.
Functional Test (COBOL): Leverage BMC Compuware Topaz for Total Test to create tests for COBOL, Batch, CICS and CICS/Db2.
Functional Test (PL/I): Leverage BMC Compuware Topaz for Total Test to execute a functional test of a batch PL/I program.
Application Performance Management
Deliver efficient and responsive applications throughout the life of the application using BMC Compuware Strobe and iStrobe.
APM COBOL: Through this test drive, you'll see how easy it is to identify resource consuming COBOL statements in an application and make changes to these COBOL statements to reduce resource consumption using BMC Compuware Strobe and BMC Compuware iStrobe.
Source Code Management
Quickly build, test and deploy mainframe code.
Simple Change: Changing a REXX program – checkout, change and promote to Production
Change a program: Checkout, change, generate and promote a program to Production
Impact Analysis: Change 2 copybooks and use Impact Analysis to understand what other components need to be reviewed for potential impacts.
ISPW Worklist: Understand the level of information available in the ISPW Worklist about components, changes made, etc.
Deployment and Fallback: Implement a change in production and then fall back to the previous version.
ISPW Emergency Change with Retrofit: After implementing an emergency change into production, retrofit those changes into the version(s) still moving through the life cycle.
Release Management and Generate Impacts: Manage a release containing assignments that are populated by generating impacts.
ISPW Part 9 Test Drive JCL Validation and Adaptation: Use a JCL validation tool, and adapt your JCL automatically as it moves to each level of the life cycle.
Create an automated workflow within a DevOps pipeline.
