VSCAN DS summaries

Use the VSCAN DS collections options to generate data set analysis reports based on the age, size, or percentage of the data sets that were included in either the VTOC scan (VSCAN) or the MCDS scan (MSCAN).

MainView SRM obtains the age, size, and percentage-used ranges of data for ML0 data sets from the VSCAN master collection data set and from the MSCAN collection data set for ML1 and ML2 information, allowing you to see aging from data set creation to expiration or deletion across numerous resources.

BSCAN processing collects backup information for each data set contained in the DFSMShsm BCDSs. The TSCAN processing will include obtaining new storage usage stats for applications, management class, storage group, and HLQ/management class. These processes together with MSCAN and VSCAN provide information for total storage usage and backup data set counts.

The age, size, and percent-used ranges are defined in the SMMSYSxx PARMLIB member and used each time a VSCAN is run that updates the master or when an MSCN is run to update its collection data set.

Tip

You can sort the report based on another category of information, such as Total DSNs. To do so, type SORT on the COMMAND line, place your cursor on the column by which you want to sort, and press Enter.

The following table summarizes each VSCAN data set summary option and its corresponding SETSRM keywords.

Note

Action line commands, the TIME command, and EZCmd menus are not available for the Data Set Summary views.
