VSCAN collections

Use the VSCAN collections options to view the VTOC scan collection data sets, view recent VTOC scan activity, and view and update PARMLIB members.

Note

You can use one of the following VSCAN primary command formats on the WBVTOC view to initiate a VTOC scan:

  • VSCAN xx

The variable xx is the suffix of the SMVSCFxx member that contains the filter keywords that are to be used in the scan.

  • VSCAN SUF=xx,keywords

The variable keywords overrides one or more filter keywords that are contained in the default SMVSCFxx member.

Collection Data Sets

Advances to the WBVTOC view.

This view displays cataloged VTOC scan collection data sets and the inflight and aborted scans from the current MainView SRM execution. MainView SRM obtains the cataloged data sets using the VSCAN_OINDX setting in the active SMMSYS PARMLIB member.

The collection data sets are displayed according to the filter member suffix.

VSCAN Activity Log

Advances to the LOGREC view.

This view displays records from the MainView SRM audit log files. When initiated from this link, filters are specified so that only VTOC scan activity records are displayed. A record is written to the audit log files when a VSCAN request is received and when a VSCAN request ends. The audit record contains the filter member that was used, the collection data set, and other information. For information about the audit log files, see Using MainView SRM products.

Data Set Filtering

Advances to the WBVTOCD view by way of the VTOC Scan Data Set Filter dialog.

Use the VTOC Scan Data Set Filter dialog to specify the filtering criteria that is used to produce the reports that are available for selection.

In the VTOC Scan Data Set Filter dialog, you can specify any or all of the parameters. Use the OP fields to set comparison operators for the values that you enter. Most non-numeric or single entry fields allow masking and stacking (multiple entries) of values separated by a comma. Some fields have two sets of OP and value entry fields. These fields allow for exclusions and ranges.

Examples:

  • The following example includes all SYS1 data sets except those that are named (prefixed) SYS1.MAN.

  • The following example includes all volumes that have volume serial numbers (VOLSERs) that begin with BAB. The example excludes all that begin with BAB1, BAB3 or BAB5.

  • The following example displays data sets that have utilization greater than 20 percent but less than 90 percent.

MainView SRM uses all of your entries in the dialog to create the data set filter. Assume that you entered all of the example entries. The resulting filter would list only SYS1 data sets (excluding SYS1.MAN data sets) on BAB volumes other than BAB1, BAB3, and BAB5 that have utilization greater than 20 percent but less than 90 percent.

Note: The first DSN and VOLUME entry fields in the dialog have a continuation line. You must completely fill the first line before using the next line because the two lines are treated as one contiguous string.

DS Changed

Filters on the data set changed indicator. A data set's changed indicator is Y if the data set has been opened for update since the last backup; otherwise, it is N.

Valid values:

Y – Include data sets that were opened for update

N – Do not include data sets that were opened for update

Filters on the data set name or mask (MYDSN or MYDSN/) or list (MYDSN/,MYDSN2/...)

  • Yes – Extended format data sets

  • No – No extended format data sets

  

Extents

Filters on the number of extents for a data set

  

Free Size

Filters on the amount of free space in a data set in tracks

  

Group/Pool Mask

Filters on the name of the group or pool (MYPOOL, MYP/ or /) or list (mypoolab,mypoolc/...)

Filters on the type of pool or group (POOL,SUBPOOL,STRGROUP)

If you enter a value in this field, you must enter a value in the Group/Pool Mask field.

Valid values are:

  • POOL

  • SUBPOOL

Include VOLSEQ=0 Records

Indicates whether to create or display accumulation records

Valid values are:

  • Y creates and displays VOLSEQ 0 (zero) records in the view.

    Note

    These records accumulate of all of the distinct pieces of a multi-volume data set.

  • N does not create or display accumulation records.

Sequence 0 data sets are complete if the retrieval request obtained all pieces of the multi-volume data set.

Is an operator field that accepts comparison values

Valid values are:

  • EQ (Equal to)

  • LT (Less than)

  • GT (Greater than)

  • NE (Not equal to)

Percent Used

Filters on the percentage of used space in the data set

Filters on the record format type
