DPO startup (DASDPOOL)

The Data Performance Optimizer (DPO) facility starts and stops automatically as part of the SVOS Started Task.

The rest of this topic applies only if you have applied PTF BPG7719.

(PTF BPG7719 applied) Within the active SMMSYSxx member, you can control whether the DPO facility collects data. Although the DPO collection environment is established in SVOS and SGP (during SVOS initialization), the DPO_COLLECT parameter determines whether data collection actually occurs:
  • DPO_COLLECT=Y (default) activates DPO data collection.
  • DPO_COLLECT=N deactivates DPO data collection.

You can turn data collection on or off by changing the DPO_COLLECT setting and then refreshing the active SMMSYSxx member.

              

The following functions use DPO related parameters:

  • DASDPOOL assigns data sets to pools of DASD volumes.
  • SMSSELCT controls the selection of volumes from a storage group for SMS-managed data sets
  • FDRASIST works with Fast Dump Restore/Application Backup Recovery (FDR/ABR)

If DPO data collection is deactivated, processing of these functions will ignore any DPO-related parameters that the functions use.

The following MainView SRM views display information related to DPO data collection.   If DPO collection is deactivated these views will not contain any data.
