Action line commands for database online views

The action line commands are the same for all database online views.

The following table lists action line commands, a brief description of each, and states whether the action will update the SMDBASxx member as well as the active database:

Command

Description

Update SMDBASxx member

D

Shows field columns for the selected database data set in a vertical display.

No

AD

Displays the Database Add panel to add a VSAM KSDS data set to the database. (This action command can be inserted on the line of any existing database data set.)

Notes:

  • The VSAM KSDS to be added must be previously defined.

  • You must specify a file status of RW, RO, or QU. (Status of RW allows the data set to be used for recording data.)

Yes

NX

Marks the selected database data set to be used as the next active data set when the current ‘Active’ data set becomes full or a SWAP command is issued.

No

RM

Displays the Database Remove Confirmation panel to remove the selected database data set.

Note: Before removing a database data set with a File Status of RW, ensure there are at least two other data sets with a File Status of RW remaining for the database to initialize successfully.

Yes

RO

Marks the selected database data set to be opened in Read-only mode (input).

Yes

RW

Marks the selected database data set to be opened in Read-Write mode (output), which will allow the data set to be used for recording data.

Yes

SW

Issues the SWAP command against the database to begin recording data on the current database data set with a File Status of ‘Next’. (This action command can be inserted on the line of any existing database data set.)

No

QU

Marks the selected database data set to be de-allocated from the database and placed in Quiesce status.

Yes

All action line commands (besides D and SW) cause the active database to be terminated and restarted. The following SVM6013I message is displayed in the MainView SRM joblog to indicate that an online request was made to alter the product database:
