SVWIH005E

The IH005 event is issued when MainView SRM determines that DFSMShsm did not perform primary space management on a volume as scheduled.

The following message is displayed:

SVWIH005E VOLUME &VOLSER IN &AP_TYPE &AP_GROUP NOT PROCESSED BY PSM ON HOST &HSM_HOST

MainView SRM determines the volumes that were processed by primary space management at the end of the primary space management run, determined by the appearance of the ARC0521I message. This system event is issued for each volume that was a candidate for primary space management but was not processed.

DFSMShsm does not perform primary space management on a volume if one of the following conditions exist:

  • The volume percentage full is below the low migration threshold.

  • A volume has already been processed once in a 14-hour interval. This behavior can be modified as discussed in the DFSMShsm Installation and Customization Guide.

A candidate volume for primary space management is determined by the SMS Storage Group definition for SMS-managed volumes and the ADDVOL command for non-SMS-managed volumes.

Event definition

As distributed, the IH005 event is defined as follows. You can create override entries in the SMEVNT PARMLIB member to change these default settings.

EVENTID=IH005
MODE=ACT
SEV=E
TEXT='VOLUME &VOLSER &AP_TYPE &AP_GROUP NOT PROCESSED BY PRIMARYSPMGMT HOST &HSM_HOST'
EVNT_HDR=NO
DEST=(CONSOLE,SYSLOG)
  • The variable &VOLSER identifies the volume serial of the volume that was not processed.
  • For SMS-managed volumes, the &AP_TYPE is GROUP and the &AP_GROUP variable is the name of the storage group.
  • For non-SMS-managed volumes, the &AP_TYPE is either POOL or SUBPOOL and the &AP_GROUP variable is the first pool in which the volume is found.
  • The variable &HSM_HOST identifies the DFSMShsm host ID where primary space management was not completed successfully.

Usage notes:

  • The MainView SRM HSM collector must be active and connected to the DFSMShsm that is performing primary space management during the entire primary space management process. This system event is not generated from messages that are captured during the offloading of the DFSMShsm LOGY data set records that are loaded to the HSM collector database by way of the batch load utility.

  • You can override this event definition to change the text, severity, or destination in the SMEVNTxx PARMLIB member.

  • You can override this event definition to change the text, severity, or destination in the SMEVNTxx PARMLIB member. To override a SYSTEM event definition, the OVERRIDE=Y parameter must be used.

  • If you are performing automation based on this system event, you can replace DEST=(CONSOLE,SYSLOG) with DEST=AO. This override sends the event to an automated operations package without the overhead of issuing a message to the system console.

  • This system event is issued on the system where primary space management runs and the ARC0521I message appears.
