Pool definitions

Pools are defined in SET statements within the SMPOOLxx PARMLIB member.

SET statement parameters are used to specify the pool name and other pool characteristics. INC and EXC statements that follow the SET statement determine the volumes that should be included in or excluded from the pool.

A number of device characteristics can be used in the INC and EXC statements to define a pool. The definitions in SMPOOLxx follow the general syntax of all FLST/RLST.

Defining pools requires the use of a specialized list of global parameters, SET statement parameters, and FLST/RLST parameters. These parameters are briefly described in the following sections and described in detail in Reference for MainView SRM products.

After you have identified the criteria for pools at your data center, use the Pools menu option to define pools in the SMPOOLxx PARMLIB member. For instructions, see Editing definition members.
