Phased rollout

This version of the software is currently available only to early adopter SaaS customers as the first step in our phased rollout. Click here to view an earlier version.

Connecting AR System data source with a replicated read-only AR database

BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting users can connect with a read-only replicated AR System  database for reporting operations. To keep the AR System production database unaffected but allow BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting users to continue with the reporting operations, you must connect your AR System data source with a read-only replicated AR System database.

To avoid issues related to license updates, complete the user onboarding process by connecting with a read/write AR System  production database. After completing the user onboarding process, perform the following steps to connect your AR System data source with a read-only replicated AR System database.

Important

The BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting database must always be in read/write mode.

  1. Log in to Mid Tier  as a BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting administrator.
  2. Navigate to Applications > Smart Reporting > Smart Reporting console.
  3. On the BMC Helix ITSM: Smart Reporting console, navigate to Administration > Admin console > Data sources.
  4. Click AR System connection.
  5. Under the Connection section, in the Host field, enter the AR System server  host name that is connected to the read-only replicated AR System database.
  6. Under the Test Connection section, click Click here to test connection to check if the connection works.
  7. Click Save to complete the connection setup.

Best practices when generating reports against a read-only database

You must restart the AR System server before generating reports against a read-only database that contains modified or customized objects such as forms, fields, or active links.
Restarting the AR System server ensures that the changes you made to the schema are reflected in your report.

This recommendation applies to all objects that are cached by the AR System server. You can modify the objects through Developer Studio, Innovation Studio, D2P deployment, or any other mechanism that you follow to modify the objects.

(SaaS subscribers) If there are any changes in the production system and you want those changes to be reflected in a report, contact BMC support.
