Applying a patch

BMC offers all the patches as a deployable package. Applying a package in your environment is easier and faster. You can download and apply the patch in your environment without using an installer.

Before you begin

Ensure the following before you install the patch:

  • You must upgrade Remedy to 19.02.01, as described in 19.02.01: Patch 1 for version 19.02 in the BMC Remedy ITSM Deployment space.
  • Ensure that the AR service, Mid-Tier service, Smart IT service, Mid-Tier file deployer service, and Smart IT file deployer service are running before you apply the patch.
  • Before deploying the patch, BMC recommends to check the ranking for the components. For more information, see Setting the component ranking order before deploying a binary payload in Remedy AR System online documentation
  • (Optional) Capture a snapshot of your application objects. For instructions, see  Capturing a snapshot of server application objects .

    Increase the heap size of Plugin server to 2.048 GB in the armonitor.cfg file. In Linux, the armonitor.cfg file is located at: /etc/arsystem/clm-aus-sw2pc3/. For Windows, the location is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\Conf. After increasing the heap size, restart AR service.

    Example
    [root@clm-aus-sw2pc3 clm-aus-sw2pc3]# grep -i pluginsvr armonitor.conf
    ${BMC_JAVA_HOME}/java-Xmx2048m-classpath/opt/bmc/ARSystem/pluginsvr:/opt/bmc/ARSystem/pluginsvr/arpluginsvr91_build004.jar:/opt/bmc/ARSystem/api/lib/arcmnapp91_build004.jarcom.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain-x clm-
    aus-sw2pc3 -i /opt/bmc/ARSystem

To set a prerequisite parameter before applying a patch

Set the value of filedeployer.localDeploymentRequired parameter to true. The patch deployment fails if you do not set the value to true.

For AR server:

    1. Open the deployconfig.properties file.

      • (Windows) C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\deployconfig.properties

      • (Linux) /opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin/deployconfig.properties

    2. Set the value of the filedeployer.localDeploymentRequired parameter to true as follows:

      filedeployer.localDeploymentRequired=true

For Smart IT server:

    1. Open the deployconfig.properties file.

        • (Windows) <Install Directory\Smart_IT\filedeployer\conf\deployconfig.properties>

        • (Linux) <Install Directory/Smart_IT/filedeployer/conf/deployconfig.properties>

    2. Set the value of the filedeployer.localDeploymentRequired parameter to true as follows:

      filedeployer.localDeploymentRequired=true

To apply a patch
