Integrating Remedy SSO with Remedy AR System

Important

The Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO) installer does not perform unintegration. If you want to integrate Remedy SSO with a supported BMC application, which is already integrated with BMC Atrium Single Sign-On, you must manually remove the previous integration.

This topic provides the following information:

Before you begin

Ensure that you have installed the following applications:

  • Remedy SSO
  • Remedy AR System
  • BMC Remedy Mid Tier

For more information, see Installing BMC Remedy AR System and   BMC Remedy Single Sign-On installing

Integrating Remedy SSO with AR System Server

To integrate Remedy Action Request System (Remedy AR System) with the Remedy SSO, you must run the Remedy SSO installer on the computer on which the Remedy AR System server is installed. You must have the Remedy SSO server and the Remedy AR System server running before performing the integration.

To run Remedy SSO on the Remedy AR System server

  1. Unzip the Remedy SSO files.
  2. Run the installation program (setup.exe).
The setup executable is located in the Disk1 directory of the extracted files.
  3. In the lower-right corner of the Welcome panel, click Next.
  4. Review the license agreement, click I agree to the terms of license agreement, and then click Next.
  5. Accept the default destination directory or browse to select a different directory, and then click Next.
  6. Select the Integrate with Remedy AR System option, and then click Next.

  7. Enter the directory path where Remedy AR System application is installed.
  8. Enter the URL (of the load balancer in a High Availability mode) for communication between Remedy SSO and agent.

    Note

The URL must be the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) only and not IP addresses or short aliases as they do not preserve cookie domain and prevent functioning of Remedy SSO.

Even when you access applications, use FQDN. For example, remedy.bmc.com.

  9. Check the installation preview and then click Install to complete the integration.

    Note

After the Remedy AR System integration is completed, the installer restarts the AR System server. If you receive a warning message that the AR System server restart has failed, check the status of the server. If the server is not running, restart the server manually.

(Optional) Silent integration of Remedy SSO with Remedy AR System

You may integrate Remedy SSO with Remedy AR System using the silent mode.

To integrate Remedy SSO with Remedy AR System using the silent mode

Run the installer with the -i silent option:

  • (Windows) setup.exe -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE=<path_to_txt_file_with_installation_options>
  • (UNIX) sh setup.bin -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE=<path_to_txt_file_with_installation_options>

The options file is as follows:

-P installLocation=<path where product info will be located>

-A productRemedySSO

-J AR_TYPE=true

-J AR_HOME=<path_to_AR_server_home>

-J INT_URL=<internal_RSSO_url>

Integrating Remedy SSO with BMC Mid Tier

To integrate BMC Remedy Mid Tier with BMC Remedy Single Sign-On, you must run the BMC Remedy Single Sign-On installer on the computer on which BMC Remedy Mid Tier is installed.

To run Remedy SSO on BMC Remedy Mid Tier

  8. Enter the URL (of the load balancer in a High Availability mode) to redirect unauthenticated user requests to Remedy SSO for authentication.
  9. Enter the URL (of the load balancer in a High Availability mode) for communication between Remedy SSO and agent.

    Note

    • The URL must be the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) only and not IP addresses or short aliases as they do not preserve cookie domain and prevent functioning of Remedy SSO. Even when you access applications, use FQDN. For example, remedy.bmc.com.
    • Step 8 refers to a user facing URL. For the sake of security, the user facing URL/end point should be https.
    • Step 9 refers to service URL, which is server-to-server communication. For the sake of performance, in a secured area you can use http.
  10. Check the installation preview and then click Install to complete the integration.

Using AREA LDAP plug-in configuration

AREA LDAP configuration and AREA RSSO are different plugins, and when you install the RSSO agent in AR System server, the AREA LDAP plugin is removed from pluginsvr_config.xml file.

If you want to use the AREA LDAP plug-in configuration for Remedy SSO, perform the following steps:

  1. Implement the same configurations (Bind User, Host Name, User Base search and other settings) in Remedy SSO as described in
MultiExcerpt named 'Configuring the AREA LDAP plug-in' was not found
The multiexcerpt named 'Configuring the AREA LDAP plug-in' was not found. Please check the page name and MultiExcerpt name used in the MultiExcerpt Include macro.
  2. Add the AREA LDAP reference again to the pluginsvr_config.xml for all the AR servers (if you have a server group):

    <plugin>
        <name>ARSYS.ARDBC.LDAP</name>
        <classname>com.bmc.arsys.plugins.ardbcldap.ARDBCLDAPPlugin</classname>
        <filename>C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\ardbcldapplugin91_build006.jar</filename>
        <pathelement type="path">FRESH</pathelement>
        <pathelement type="location">C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\ardbcldapplugin91_build006.jar</pathelement>
    </plugin>

Note

You cannot use RSSO integration for DevStudio or User Tool.

RSSO integrates with Mid Tier which uses AREA RSSO plugin, and Dev Studio or User Tool goes directly to the AR Server authentication by using the AREA plugin.

If you have a Remedy Server Group with several ARS installed. Is it necessary to run "Integrating Remedy SSO with AR System Server" for each AR System Server?
