Discovering CIs and assets
You can discover devices in your environment and you can also manage configuration items (CIs) and assets in BMC Remedyforce CMDB. Discovery automates population of CIs and assets in BMC Remedyforce CMDB and helps to keep this data up-to-date so that it accurately reflects changes in your IT environment.
The BMC Remedyforce Base license provides agentless discovery, which allows you to scan your network or parts of your network for devices without installing agents on them. It discovers CIs and assets, such as computers, printers, and routers. Agentless discovery scans the devices for their basic information, such as operating system, hardware configurations, and software inventories.
BMC Remedyforce enables you to manage discovered devices with Remedyforce Client Management by performing direct actions on them (such as remote control or view registry). These direct actions require an agent to be running on the discovered devices. To perform these direct actions and use other enhanced capabilities, you must upgrade your BMC Remedyforce license to BMC Remedyforce Client Management Premium or Premium Plus license.
