To manage discovered devices, you can perform the following actions:

When you upgrade your discovery license, you also get access to enhanced capabilities based on your license subscription. Those capabilities are available from the BMC Client Management Console. This section provides details about how you can manage discovered devices from BMC Remedyforce.

Performing CMDB actions

License Required

To enable staff members to perform CMDB actions, you require one of the following licenses:

  • BMC Remedyforce Base (only system administrators can perform CMDB actions on scanners)
  • BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium
  • BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium Plus

CMDB actions are the capabilities that enable you to access and manage discovered devices. For example, the Remote Control action enables you to execute any required functions on the discovered device or take control of the device to help the local user. You can also fetch device information by using CMDB actions. For example, Show Inventory Summary displays the inventory summary of the device. The summary includes details about the hardware, software, license, security, financial, and operational rules' action history.

Run CMDB actions on the discovered devices. These actions are available from the Remedyforce Console and Remedyforce CMDB tabs. To ensure that your staff members are able to access CMDB actions, provide the capabilities required to access these actions to your staff members in BMC Client Management. The following CMDB actions are available:

Deploying operational rules

License Required

To enable staff members to perform CMDB actions, you require one of the following licenses:

  • BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium
  • BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium Plus

Operational rules enable staff members to perform a group of CMDB actions on discovered devices. Based on your organization needs, create operational rules in the BMC Client Management Console. Also, verify that your staff members have the required capabilities assigned to them in BMC Client Management to create and deploy operational rules. For more information, see  Operational rules Open link  in the BMC Client Management documentation. You can deploy operational rules on devices on which agents are installed and running. You can deploy operational rules from BMC Client Management Console or from BMC Remedyforce.

Managing patches and software distribution

License Required

To manage patches and software distribution, you require the BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium Plus license.

With the BMC Remedyforce Client Management - Premium Plus license, you get the Patch Management option available in the BMC Client Management Console and the Software Distribution operational rule step. With Patch Management, you can easily and quickly manage, update, and download all of your patches for Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft applications, and selected third-party applications, such as Firefox, installed across your network.

You can manage patches from BMC Client Management Console only. You can access the BMC Client Management Console from the Remedyforce CMDB tab. For more information, see  Introducting patch management Open link  in the BMC Client Management product documentation.

By using the Software Distribution module, you can automate the tasks of distributing, installing, and configuring all enterprise software. Whether deploying or migrating operating systems, updating service packs or upgrading product versions, or rolling out virus protection patches, Software Distribution enables fast and efficient distribution of software to all workstations simultaneously. You can also control and manage software installation and distribution across the entire network with ease.

You can configure Software Distribution in an operational rule in BMC Client Management Console and use the operational rule in BMC Remedyforce. For more information, see  Introducing software distribution Open link  in the BMC Client Management product documentation.

To ensure that your staff members are able to access the Patch Management and Software Distribution options, verify that they have the required capabilities assigned to them in BMC Client Management.
