Starting the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager

To work in BMC Client Management or to perform additional actions other than the actions available from the Asset Core Actions menu, you can start the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager (accessed from the Remedyforce CMDB tab). For information about the actions that you can perform from the Asset Core Actions menu, see Asset Core Actions menu options.

Prerequisite to start the BMC Client Management console

BMC Remedyforce uses Java Web Start to start the BMC Client Management console. You must install the latest version of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer, as listed in the following table. When you install the JRE, Java Web Start is also installed on your computer. For more information about Java Web Start, see http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/javaws.

Note: BMC recommends that you install Version 7.

You can download JRE from http://www.java.com/getjava.

Configuring browser settings to start the BMC Client Management console

When you start the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager, you are prompted to download a Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP) file from your Salesforce.com organization. To avoid being prompted to download the JNLP file each time you start the BMC Client Management console, you must configure the settings for your browser.

Note

Some of these settings might vary in different versions of a browser.

To configure settings for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or later

  1. In your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser window, select Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Select your zone.
  4. In the Security level for this zone section, click Custom Level.
  5. From the Downloads options, select Enable for the Automatic prompting for file downloads option.
  6. Select Enable for the File download option.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click the Advanced tab.
  9. From the Security options, clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box.
  10. To close the Internet Options window, click OK.

To configure settings for Mozilla Firefox

  1. Select Tools > Options.
  2. Click the Applications tab.
  3. For the JNLP files, select Use Java Web Start Launcher.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Navigate to Start > Control Panel > Java.
  6. Click the Advanced tab.
  7. Expand the Java console setting and select the Hide console option.
  8. Expand the JNLP file/MIME Association setting and select the Always allow option.
  9. Click OK.

Starting the BMC Client Management console

  1. Navigate to the Remedyforce CMDB tab.
  2. In the Configuration Items List view, click Launch FootPrints Console .

    Note

    This toolbar button is displayed in the Configuration Items List view only if your system administrator has enabled the integration between BMC Remedyforce and BMC Client Management.

  3. Download the CMDBManager.JNLP file from your Salesforce.com organization to your computer.
    If the CMDBManager.JNLP file is already present in your cache, the file name is incremented by one; for example, CMDBManager1.JNLP, CMDBManager2.JNLP, and so on.
  4. To start the BMC Client Management console, open the JNLP file with Java Web Start.

    Note

    If you are a valid BMC Client Management administrator and are connecting from BMC Remedyforce to BMC Client Management for the first time, the BMC Client Management Authentication dialog box is displayed. You must enter your BMC Client Management credentials in this dialog box. Your BMC Client Management user name is saved, and you do not need to enter your credentials for future connection attempts.
