Customizing after installation

The Recovery utility lets you set up various levels of customization to suit the needs of your installation.

Customization helps your installation obtain maximum flexibility when processing a recovery task. The customization process is optional. You can choose not to customize at all. The internal default values for Recovery utility options are designed to be compatible with the IMS utilities.

You can use any or all of the following methods for customizing the Recovery utility:

  • keywords on utility control statements

For certain recovery jobs, you might want to specify customization keywords on the GLBL or other control statement.

  • global options modules

You can use a global options module to specify the values you want to use most of the time for most databases. The values in the global options module override the Recovery utility internal defaults.

  • database-specific options modules

Since you might want to use another set of values for other databases, you could create a database-specific option module in the PDX to handle special cases for selected databases. A PDX is a special data set used by the BMC IMS Database Utilities products for storing customization options and reports.
