Using the Loop Check solution
BMC AMI Ops Monitor for z/OS can detect jobs that might be caught in a CPU loop and jobs that have exceeded a defined value for certain metrics. You can use OpsM for z/OS to automatically detect these jobs by defining CPU loop check and maximum value check profiles, or you can manually detect them by opening new views.
OpsM for z/OS detects these jobs by:
- Collecting CPU usage and I/O information for all jobs, TSOs, and Started Tasks (STCs) at 1-minute intervals
- Passing the information to Alarm Management
Alarm Management creates an alarm that generates alerts when jobs meet the CPU-loop or the maximum-value detection profile criteria that you defined.
Also, using those alerts, you can configure an automation product such as BMC AMI Ops Automation for z/OS to take appropriate action.
You can view information related to Loop Check in the following views:
- LPCKCAND, which displays information that you can use to detect jobs that might be caught in a CPU loop.
- MAXOVER, which displays information that you can use to detect jobs that have exceeded defined maximum values.
