Preparing tables for Performance Reporter

Use one of the following procedures to prepare the tables that Performance Reporter will use:

Warning

Important

If you want to update tables to a newer version, consider the following information:

  • You cannot skip release levels. That is, you can update tables to the new release level from one release level back.
  • Before updating tables to a newer version, Performance Reporter maintenance for the previous version must be fully up-to-date.

Before you begin

For prerequisites and tips to consider, see Setting-up-performance-batch-reports .

To create new Performance Reporter tables

  1. (Optional) Using the DZPRUCNV utility by accessing the DMRPRJCL sample in the UBBSAMP data set, change the default names to conform to your site's naming convention. See the samples in the following table. For more information, see Using-product-libraries.

  2.  Edit member DPJCREAT and run it on the same Db2 system where the objects are to be created-DPJCREAT is a multi-step allocation, bind, and grant job.

The first step allocates the spin files that are required by the DPRSMF job, which extracts Db2 SMF records and loads the data into the Performance Reporter tables.
The second and third steps define the database, table spaces, tables, and indexes used to store the performance data.
The fourth and fifth steps bind and grant access to the Performance Reporter packages and plans.
If you did not use DMRPRJCL or DZPRUJCL to configure the Performance Reporter Jobs, then perform the following steps:

    1. Verify the job statement.
    2. Change the product high-level qualifier parameters to the high-level qualifier of your BMC Software product libraries.
    3. Verify the DB2LOAD and DB2RUNL libraries.
    4. Specify the UNIT and VOL parameters. These parameters are used to allocate a small permanent data set used by the SMF extractor.
    5. Submit the job.
    Warning

    Important

The Performance Reporter DDL is set up to use STOGROUP DMRPRSG1. Sample job DMRPRJCL updates the DMRPRSG1 to SYSDEFLT.  If you do not want to use SYSDEFLT or you are not using DMRPRJCL to configure Performance Reporter, you must create STOGROUP DMRPRSG1 in the Db2 subsystem that will host your Performance Reporter database. When using DMRPRJCL, you may change SYSDEFLT to some other existing STOGROUP. You may uncomment the contents of member DPCSTOW to create a STOGROUP when Performance Reporter is configured. For more information see DPCSTOW.

You cannot migrate data from an earlier version of Performance Reporter into the newly created tables. If you want to use existing Performance Reporter tables, see To update existing Performance Reporter tables to a newer version.

To update existing Performance Reporter tables to a newer version

  1. Verify that the maintenance for the previous version of Performance Reporter is up to date.

    Warning

    Important

If you want to update tables to a newer version, consider the following information:

    • The DPJALTER job should not be used to mass apply maintenance. It should only be used to update the tables to the new release level from one release level back.

WarningSome content is unavailable due to permissions.

    • You cannot skip release levels. That is, you can only update tables to the new release level from one release level back.
    • Before updating tables to a newer version, Performance Reporter maintenance for the previous version must be fully up to date.
  2. Run the DPJALTER job to change the DMRTABLEVERSION, and any other structure changes that might have been updated due to maintenance.
  3. You must run the DPJREPAR job one time after you run the DPJALTER job.

WarningSome content is unavailable due to permissions.

  4. Run the DPJBIND job to bind the plan that processes all Performance Reporter data.

WarningSome content is unavailable due to permissions.

You are provided with a populated set of Performance Reporter tables that you can maintain with the newer version of DPRDSMF.
