Displaying Traces

This topic describes displaying MainView for IP traces.

To display a MainView for IP trace

After starting a trace, you can display the trace and drill down into the trace for additional details. Use the D action from the following views to display the trace records:

  • PKTTRACE: Packet Trace
  • DATTRACE: Data Trace
  • OSATRACE: OSA Trace
  • SKTTRACE: Socket Trace

From the trace display views, for each trace entry you can drill down to display additional information. The following tables list the views for each type of MainView for IP trace.

The PKTTRACE view summarizes the packet trace by connection and allows the users to drill down on each specific connection in the packet trace.

Filtering the trace entries

You can display records for a date, range of dates, a port, IP address and protocol. Each trace can only display the first 100,000 trace records that match the filter criteria entered.

To filter a MainView for IP trace

  1. From one of the following trace display views, place the cursor next to the column title Search Criteria, and press Enter:

    • PKTTRACE: Packet Trace
    • DATTRACE: Data Trace
    • OSATRACE: OSA Trace

The Search Criteria expands displaying the Trace filter fields that are listed in the following table:

    Packet Trace Filter fields

    Field

    Description

    Start Date

A specific date or the starting point of a range of dates to limit the records displayed based on the date of the trace entry.

    Start Time

A specific time or the starting point of a range of times to limit the records displayed based on the time of the trace entry.

    Stop Date

An ending date for a range of dates. Use this field with the Start Date field.

    Stop Time

An ending time for a range of times. Use this field with the Start Time field.

  2. Enter the filter criteria and press EnterThe trace view searches through all the trace records and displays the records that match the criteria entered up to the maximum number of records (Max Records) defined.

Filtering a socket trace in MainView IP

Use the following procedure to filter the packet trace entries.

To filter a socket trace
