Using views

This section describes how to use MainView for CICS views. It explains how views are organized, and it answers some of the most commonly asked questions, and points you to additional views. It also includes the following sections:

Understanding views

MainView for CICS windows-mode data is displayed in views.

When a view is requested, a query is executed against the data that was collected for that view. The result is presented in a MainView window according to the instructions that are associated with the view. Each MainView window presents the following information:

  • a control area where commands can be entered

  • a line that provides window and view status information

  • a display area for view data

MainView for CICS  collects and displays some data when the view is displayed. MainView for CICS also displays data that is collected from interval records, which is gathered by monitors. MainView for CICS saves these interval records in the MVI HISTDISnn data set.  For more information about these views, see Interval record views.

Online Help is available for all views and fields. Online Help is context sensitive based on the position of the cursor. You can get Help about

  • views

  • view fields

  • window information line elements

  • commands

  • the windows-mode interface

The Help is displayed in pop-up windows that overlay part of your screen.

The simplest way to move between views is to hyperlink to another view by positioning the cursor on a menu option or a highlighted field and pressing Enter.

You can access views by using any of the following methods:

  • Hyperlink from a menu option.

  • Hyperlink from a highlighted field in another view.

  • Type the name of the view on the COMMAND line.

  • Select the name of a view from a list of views:

    • The MAIN view presents a list of submenus with lists of related views that can be selected.

    • The VIEWS view presents a list of all distributed or site-customized views.

    • The USER view (available from MAIN) presents a list of all views that you have customized.

For more information about views and MainView windows, see the MainView User Guide.
