Use generics to identify resources

You might want to use generics to define a group of resources to your ESM or to control access to them.

First make sure that your ESM and the security class that you defined to it support the use of generics. The appropriate use of generics depends on the security class that you use, but in general these guidelines apply:

  • An asterisk (*) can be used to represent a string of characters.
  • All qualifiers in a resource name can be generic except the prefix node.
  • Security authorization is granted to every resource that matches the qualified generic name.

Example

To grant access to all CICS display file services without having to identify each one, you could specify:

BBM.SS01.CICS.CICS01.FILE.*

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
