Using the windows-mode Automation Reporter applications

The windows mode Automation Reporter application uses the data collection and interval recorder capabilities of the MainView Infrastructure to record, archive and display current and historical automation data.

The MainView Infrastructure data collector collects samples of the data at a specified frequency and records this information in the history record structures. This data will be viewable if you define interval recorder historical data sets. Otherwise, you will only see the current interval of data being collected.

The interval recorder specifies the time interval cutoff for collecting data, creates new empty records for the data collectors to populate, and schedules the new history records to be written to historical data sets.

Tip

For more information, BMC recommends that you refer to the following MainView documentation:

  • MainView Administration Guide, 'Managing historical data sets'

This chapter describes the historical database, how it operates in the MainView environment and how to manage the databases.

  • MainView User Guide, 'Historical data in windows mode'

This chapter describes how to generate historical batch reports.

After the Automation Reporter is activated, it provides dynamic and interactive access to automation data that allows you to easily audit and monitor automation activities. You can display the automation data collected through windows-mode views and you can filter and refresh data in real-time.

In addition, after the data is collected you can easily generate historical batch reports that can be saved to a data set or SYSOUT (if you have defined interval recorder historical data sets).

Activating the Automation Reporter describes how to activate the Automation Reporter.
