Using distributed alarms

MainView TOM distributes alarm definitions for you to modify and activate.

There are five distributed alarms in the ALRMDIST view that are based on the MainView TOM view TOBJO. These alarms are triggered to respond to different situations:

  • MAMOBJ01 alarm is reported when an object's last detected status (active or inactive) is different from the required status.

  • MAMOBJ02 alarm is reported when an object's current system status is FAILURE-*.

  • MAMOBJ03 alarm is reported when an object is running on a system that is not the primary or first system in the Valid System List.

  • MAMOBJ04 alarm is reported when an object's dependency calculation result is NO or FALSE because the object depends on an object or set whose property condition is false (for example, @STATUS = ACTIVE).

  • MAMOBJ05 alarm is reported when an object's Exception indicator is YES (for example, force-started by an operator).

After adding a distributed alarm to the alarm definition file system, you can use the alarm just like your own defined alarms. For more information about using alarms, see the MainView Alarm Management Guide.

To add a distributed alarm to the alarm definition file system

  1. On the COMMAND line, type ALRMDIST and press Enter to go to the ALRMDIST.

  2. Use the following commands to add alarms to the alarm definition file system:

    Command

    Description

    ADD primary command

Adds one or more alarms to the alarm definition file system and can be entered on the COMMAND line in the following format:

    ADD pattern

The pattern variable uses the * and ? wildcards to select which alarms to add. For example

    • ADD * selects all distributed alarm definitions.

    • ADD ABC* selects all distributed alarm definitions with alarm names beginning with 'ABC'.

    • ADD ABC? selects all distributed alarm definitions with alarm names beginning with 'ABC' that are four characters in length.

The specified alarms are added to the alarm definition file system in the library and group indicated in the ALRMDIST view list.

    A (Add) line command

Adds the selected alarm to the alarm definition file system

The selected alarm is added to the alarm definition file system in the library and group indicated in the ALRMDIST view list. Before executing the line command, you can overtype the library name, group name, or both to specify a different location for the alarm.
