Creating multiple definition bases

An object definition base is a part of the registry where TOM collects and organizes information about objects and sets and their attributes. A calendar definition base is where TOM collects and organizes information about calendar entries.

To create additional definition bases

  1. On the COMMAND line of the TDEFBS view, type ADD and press Enter.
  2. Next to the New Def Base name field, enter the name of a new definition base. The definition base name should contain 1 to 24-characters.
  3. Next to the New Def Base type field, enter 1 (object) or 2 (calendar). The type of definition base can be object or calendar.
  4. Next to the Sysplex field, enter the name of the sysplex where you want this definition base or leave the current sysplex name that appears.
  5. (optional) In the Description field, enter a 1 to 40-character description of the new definition base.
  6. Press PF3 to save.

To create definitions for a new definition base

  1. Type SWT (Switch) in the CMD field next to the name of the new definition base and press Enter.

Yes appears in the Edit column, indicating that you can now create, edit, and delete objects for the new definition base. However, TOM is still managing the sysplex based on the definitions in the active definition base.

  2. Type TOBJ on the COMMAND line to display the object list view.
  3. Type ADD on the COMMAND line to add new objects or type E next to any objects that you want to edit.

When the Specify Object Name dialog is displayed, you can verify that you are defining or editing objects for the definition base you selected in Step 1.

To change the active definition base

Type ACT (Activate) in the CMD field next to the name of the definition base that you want to make active.

Note

Activating a definition base on one TOM in the TOMPLEX causes that definition base to become active on all TOMs in the TOMPLEX.

TOM immediately begins to use the object definitions in the activated definition base.
