Navigating BMC Remedy Smart Reporting

This topic will help you navigate BMC Remedy Smart Reporting.

There are two styles of system navigation available in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting; Left Side Navigation, and Toolbar Navigation. The option used within your system is defined by an administrator on the Configuration page.

(BMC Remedy Smart Reporting version 9.1.02 and earlier) The main system areas can be accessed via the toolbar at the top of the page, outside of BMC Remedy Smart Reporting builders such as Report, Storyboard, and View Builders.

Left Side Navigation

(BMC Remedy Smart Reporting version 9.1.03 and later) This navigation style is introduced in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting 9.1.03 as an alternative to the traditional toolbar. 

The main system areas can be accessed via the collapsible panel on the left of the page, outside of BMC Remedy Smart Reporting builders such as Report, Storyboard, and View Builders.

Depending on the access you have been given as per your role, you will view different things in the system navigation. The following sections explore all the possible options.

To adjust your role permissions and get the required access, contact your system administrator.

The Search option allows you to locate content such as Reports, Dashboards, and Storyboards, displaying results on the Browse Page. This option is configured through the Dashboard Display Settings in the Content Settings area of Administration.

Dashboard TopDashboard Right

This option is displayed in the main navigation bar at the top of the Dashboard page.

This option requires the following settings:

  • Content Settings > Dashboard > Display Settings > Search Location = Top

This option is displayed to the right of the active Dashboard tab, on the Dashboard page.

This option requires the following settings:

  • Content Settings > Dashboard > Display Settings > Search Location = Right

The Timeline area allows you to view the activity that has occurred in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting relevant to you. It also allows you to define preferences that apply to your BMC Remedy Smart Reporting account, customizing the way you interact with BMC Remedy Smart Reporting.

Left side navigationToolbar navigation

To access this navigation, click the icon in the top left corner of the screen. Then, click your name to open the timeline settings.

This option requires the following settings:

  • Configuration > System > Navigation Style = Left Side Navigation

To access this navigation and to display the pictured drop-down list, click the arrow next to your name in the main navigation bar.

This option requires the following settings:

  • Configuration > System > Navigation Style = Toolbar Navigation

The following table lists the available functions for the User Timeline.

Description

Timeline

This function is a user-specific event timeline, which displays the information based on particular user BMC Remedy Smart Reporting activity. 
The events include content activity around reports, dashboard tabs, storyboards, and loading of content such as views, csv files, and images, and collaborative events such as comments and discussion posts.

Tasks

This function allows you to access your timeline and view it in the Task Management list layout.

Favorites

This function allows you to see a list of content that you have nominated as your favorite. It also includes a list of new content from which you could select new favorites.

Draft Content

This function allows you to view the browse page, filtered down to only show draft content that you have access to.

Personal Broadcast

This function contains a list of content that you have subscribed to, including report, report comment, and storyboard comment subscriptions.

Profile Settings

This function allows you to define settings that effect how you see and use the system. These settings are only applied to your account.

This menu provides you access to the various content builders used in the system. The options available to you through this menu is restricted by your role permissions assigned by an administrator. The Create menu is dependent upon the navigation style settings defined under Configuration > System settings.

If you use the Left Side navigation, you will be able to choose to position the Content Creation function within the left navigation panel or as a button on the main navigation bar. If you use the Toolbar Navigation, the Create link is one of the standard toolbar items.

This option requires the following settings:

  • Configuration > System > Navigation Style = Left Side Navigation
  • Configuration > System > Content Creation Location = Left Side Navigation

This option requires the following settings:

  • Configuration > System > Navigation Style = Left Side Navigation
  • Configuration > System > Content Creation Location = Top Right

This option requires the following settings:

  • Configuration > System > Navigation Style = Toolbar Navigation

This link opens the New Report window, where you can define how you want to build your report.

Standard DashboardThis link allows you to create a new Standard Dashboard tab.

KPI Dashboard

This link allows you to create a new KPI Dashboard tab.

View

This link opens the Create New View window, where you can build a view using several different builder types.

Data SourceThis link opens the New Connection window, where you can set up a new data source connection using several different methods.

Storyboard

This link allows you to create a new Storyboard.

Discussion Streams

This link opens the Create Discussion Stream window, where you can set up a new stream.

TaskThis link opens the New Task window, where you can create and assign a task.

This menu gives you access to all the dashboard tabs you have assigned to your Dashboard. The following table lists the available functions for the Dashboards menu.

List of Tabs This function displays a list of each individual tabs you have assigned to your Dashboard, allowing you to navigate to them directly.
Add TabThis function allows you to access the Browse page, view a list of dashboard tabs, and add one to your dashboard.

This menu gives you access to all the users you are connected to, and their timelines. The following table lists the available functions for the People menu.

Add Connection This function allows you to access your own timeline and open the Connections panel to locate and add new connections.

This menu allows you access to a list of reports, dashboards, storyboards, and discussion streams. The following table lists the available functions for the Browse menu.

Browse AllThis function displays the Browse page, where you will see an unfiltered list of reports, dashboards, storyboards, and discussion streams.

ReportsThis function displays the Browse page, filtered to just display reports.
StoryboardsThis function displays the Browse page, filtered to just display storyboards.
Discussion StreamsThis function displays the Browse page, filtered to just display discussion streams.

These menus allow you access to discussion streams. The following table lists the available functions for the Streams menu.

Discussion Streams

This function contains a list of all Discussion Groups that you can access and allows you to open them, viewing all activity within a group.

List of StreamsThis function displays a list of all the streams you have joined, providing access to each. 
Add StreamThis function allows you to access the browse page filtered down to just display streams, allowing you to locate and join new streams.

Clicking on the Administration option provides you with a list of the most commonly used Administration features. This is only available if you have Administration access.

The following table lists the available functions for user timeline.

Admin Console

This function displays the main Admin Console page, rather than providing a short cut to one of the main admin components.

Configuration

This function will take you to the Configuration page, allowing you to customise BMC Remedy Smart Reporting settings, such as authentication, integration (headers, footers, and navigation), page formatting, email server and defaults, system parameters, and regional settings.

Content Settings

This function take you to the Content Settings page, allowing you to manage the way BMC Remedy Smart Reporting displays each type of content.

Export

This function will take you to the Export page, allowing you to save an xml fine defining selected pieces of content for use as backups or to transfer to different instances of BMC Remedy Smart Reporting.

Import

This function will take you to the Import page, allowing you to select and xml file that defines pieces of content you wish to add to the system.

Images & MapsThis function will take you to the Images & Maps page, allowing you to manage images, raster maps, and wms layers in the system.
Email TemplateThis function will take you to the Email Template page, allowing you to customise the style of automated emails sent from the system.
Session ManagementThis function will take you to the Session Management page, allowing you to view and manage the current sessions in the system.

Schedule Management

This function will take you to the Schedule Management page, allowing you to view and manage all schedules in the system.
Dashboard ManagementThis function will take you to the Dashboard Management page, allowing you to view and manage the dashboard tabs in the system.
Licence ManagementThis function will take you to the Licence Management page, allowing you to view, update, and schedule reminders for the system licence.
Background ExecutionThis function will take you to the Background Execution page, allowing you to manage current queued and running report queries.

Plugin Management

This function will take you to the Plugin Management page, allowing you to manage all plugins in the system.
System InformationThis function will take you to the System Information page, which provides you with technical information requried for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Content TranslationThis function will take you to the Content Translation page, which will allow you to manage all translations you've provided for content in the system.
Client OrganizationThis function will take you to the Client Orgs page, which will allow you to manage all Client Organisations in the system.

The Inbox is a depreciated feature, replaced by Timeline in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting 9.1.03. It included notifications related to Reports, Dashboards, Storyboards, Comments, Discussions, Broadcasts, Approvals.
