Smart IT installation process overview

Before starting the installation, consider the system requirements for BMC Remedy with Smart IT.

To install Smart IT, perform the following steps:

  1. Install the Smart IT data access component (BMC Remedy AR System 7.6.04SP2) on a Windows or Linux system, which connects to your relational database. For more information about downloading the BMC Remedy AR System 7.6.04SP2 installation files, see Downloading the installation files at the BMC Remedy AR System 7.6.04SP2 space.

You can use your existing AR System server.

    Note

If you run the Smart IT Beta version on Unix OS, it supports only BMC Remedy AR System server 8.1. You also need to apply the AR server hotfix provided in the Smart IT FTP site at ftp://filedownload.bmc.com/Beta%20Refresh%20July%2021%202014/Unix_Prerequisites/
(FTP Account: ITSMBeta; FTP Password: itsm$bmc123).

  2. Configure the service request infrastructure (BMC Remedy IT Service Management 7.6.04SP2 with obligatory BMC Remedy Knowledge Management and optional BMC Service Request Management and BMC Service Level Management) to provide authentication for Smart IT users and to provide access to incidents, service requests, and knowledge articles.
You can use your existing BMC Remedy ITSM environment. (You can install BMC Remedy ITSM on the same AR System server on which Smart IT is installed or on a separate AR System server.)
  3. Install the Smart IT Social patch.
  4. Install the Smart IT application.

    Note

If you choose to use Microsoft Windows authentication, that is, MS SQL as your RDBMS, make sure you create three user accounts on your Windows system that can be used in the business, system, and OpenFire Smart IT schemas.

  5. Deploy the Smart IT application to users so that they can install it on their mobile devices.
