Error messages
Error messages reported by the BMC Helix ITSM applications indicate failures that prevent user operations. You can identify and correct most errors based on the message that is displayed.
Typical reasons for errors include the following points:
- Failure to populate the required fields.
- Entering incorrect values instead of selecting items from the menu.
- Attempting to change an attribute value to an incorrect state.
- Attempting to use data that has not been properly configured by the application administrator.
In some cases, an operation performed in a BMC Helix ITSM application results in an error message from a supporting or integrated application, which might describe features unfamiliar to the application administrator. The error number identifies the application that is reporting the error. For information about the error number ranges for AR System, see

Important
BMC does not document the entire error catalog because the error messages themselves provide information about how to correct a failure.
For example: You do not have permission to move the status to Closed.
