Defining event statistics

Event statistics are the frequency at which you want to track the event data and to group the data to derive consolidated metrics.

Before you begin

Before you create and manage event statistics definitions, make sure you have completed the following tasks:

Important

Application business analysts can customize the objects developed in their own applications and that are marked customizable by the administrator, but cannot customize the objects developed in com.bmc.arsys in Best Practice Customization mode. For example, objects in core BMC applications like Foundation, Approval, and Assignment cannot be customized in Best Practice Customization mode.

To create the event statistics definition

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Workspace tab.
  2. Select the application or library where you want to create an event statistics definition
  3. Click Events Statistics > New.
  4. On the Event Properties tab, in Name, enter a name for the event statistics definition.

For example, for the Knowledge search event, you can add the Knowledge usage statistics.

    Important

You cannot rename an Event Statistics definition.

  5. From the Event list, select the event for which you want to create the event statistics definition.
For example, select the Knowledge search event.
  6. (Optional) If you do not want to collect these statistics for this event, click the toggle key.
  7. (Optional) In the REPORTING section, if you do not want to include the number of event occurrences in the statistics, click the Count Events check box.

  8. To group the attributes so that data is consolidated as a single usage metrics, in the Group by Attributes section, click Add Attribute to Group By and select the attributes from the list.

For example, for the Knowledge Search event and the Knowledge usage statistics, you can group the attributes by Article ID so that the count, average hits, maximum hits, and minimum hits for that article are derived as a single usage metrics report for the Knowledge search event.

    Important

You can group attributes of only integer, text, or boolean data types.

  9. In Report By, select the frequency at which you want BMC Helix Virtual Agent to report the usage metrics.

  10. Click Save.

To copy an event statistics definition

You can reuse an event statistics definition by copying it within the application or to a different application or library.

Important

When you copy an event statistics definition, make sure all events for which you have created the event statistics are copied to the target application.

The following image describes how the objects are referenced after you copy the event statistics definition to the target application or library:

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Innovation Studio and navigate to the Workspace tab.
  2. Select the application or library that contains the event statistics you want to copy.
  3. Click Events Statistics, select the event statistics definition that you want to copy, and click Copy.
  4. In the Copy definition dialog box, enter the following details:
    • From Target application/library, select the target application or library where you want to copy the event statistics.
    • In the Definition name field, type a name for the event statistics definition.

The copied event statistics is saved in the target application.
