Obtaining the Installation System image by using the distributed file transfer method

The distributed file transfer method uses FTP to download the Installation System image and the decompression job from the BMC Electronic Software Distribution File Transfer Protocol (BMC ESD FTP) site. It then uploads the files to your mainframe.

For more information, view the Quick Course Installation System - Distributed FTP Physical Media.

For a list of Quick Courses about the Installation System, see PDFs and videos.

Use the following procedure to use the distributed file transfer method:

  1. Download the DistributedFTP_downloadfiles.txt and DistributedFTP_uploadfiles.txt files.
See Sample JCL. If prompted, provide a valid support user ID and password. To register for a support user ID and password, go to http://www.bmc.com/support.

  2. Open a command prompt and go to the drive and folder to which you want to download files.

  3. Execute the following command to download the image and decompression job to your workstation:

    ftp -n -s:'myPath/DistributedFTP_downloadfiles.txt'

Update myPath with the path where you saved the DistributedFTP_downloadfiles.txt file.

Message 250 Transfer completed successfully. displays at the end of each file transfer, and message 221 Quit command received. Goodbye. displays at the end of the output.
