This section answers frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the Installation System and the documentation portal.

 

Installation System

FAQs pertaining to the Installation System.

 Do I have to install the Installation System multiple times?

No. After installing the Installation System once, you can use it for multiple installations.

 How do I perform maintenance for my products?

Use the maintenance component of the Installation System. For more information, see Maintaining your products.

 Do all mainframe-based BMC components, products, and solutions use the Installation System?

Most of them use the Installation System now, and the remainder will begin using it in the future; implementation will occur in a phased approach. For a list of the currently supported products, see Supported products.

 When are passwords required?

Passwords are required for running BMC products and solutions, but not for installing them.

 Do all BMC Software components, products, and solutions that use the Installation System require passwords?

All require passwords except MainView Explorer, RxD2/FlexTools, and RxD2/Link.

 How do I get the Installation System?

Use the provided Sample JCL.

 Can the country setting for my terminal cause errors during an installation?

If the terminal uses a non-English alphabet or a translation table, you will get error messages, especially when trying to move past the Select Products panel (BMIPC1A) during installation. Determine whether you are using usermods that will translate BMC installation code to your country's language. The recommended terminal type is 3278.

The following are general questions about mainframe documentation:
 How can I get a PDF of selected content in a space?
  1. From the Tools menu in the upper-right, select Export to PDF.

  2. Select the type of PDF that you want:
    • Only this page for a PDF of the current page
    • This page and its children for a PDF of the current page and all of its child topics

Depending on the number of topics included in the export, it might take several minutes to create the PDF. After the export is complete, you can download the PDF.

 Where can I get a list of all mainframe AMI products, Cost Optimization products, MainView products, and BMC products for the IBM DB2 and IBM IMS subsystems?

Go to the docs.bmc.com main dashboard and click the BMC Mainframe products (DB2 IMS MainView Cost Optimization AMI) box, or click here to go directly to the list.

 How can I contact BMC Support?

If you have problems with or questions about a BMC product, or for the latest support policies, see the Customer Support website at https://www.bmc.com/support/support-central.html. You can access product documents, search the Knowledge Base for help with an issue, and download products and maintenance.

If you do not have access to the web and you are in the United States or Canada, contact Customer Support at 800 537 1813. Outside the United States or Canada, select your country at Contact BMC to view local Support Contacts.

 How can I check a product version's support status?

You can find the support status for specific product versions on Support Central. Selecting a product from the “A–Z Supported Product List” shows:

  • All versions of the product and their current support levels (full or limited)
  • Dates on which support ends

You can also find information about the latest support policies on Support Central.

 Where can I get the security certificates needed for transferring files to BMC Support?

    your doc keeps saying that any required ptfs for the installation system are documented in technical bulletins but no where can I find anything about viewing a list of technical bulletins for the current installation system. one might think that the FAQs page would be a good place to put that bit of information.

      Hi, Gene. Thanks for contacting us!

      You can view all technical bulletins, flashes, and release notes for this version of the Installation System by clicking the gray Notices banner on the home page. The banner appears immediately below the installation-flow figure.

      Note: As announced in the version 3.6.00 release notes, the Installation System is no longer installed via SMP/E. We updated the version 3.6.00 documentation to reflect that change. If you are still encountering references to PTFs for the Installation System, please feel free to leave comments on those pages so that we can correct them. Thank you!
