Using SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER
You can maintain your BMC products by using IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER.
SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER simplifies ordering and retrieving BMC service updates, either on-demand or through your scheduler. Using RECEIVE ORDER, you can:
- Request a corrective or preventive service that encompasses any of the following areas:
- All—All SYSMODs (PTFs and APARs)
APARS—Authorized program analysis reports
Important
SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER accepts an APAR request but does not deliver any associated PTF maintenance. To retrieve a specific PTF maintenance, you must submit the PTF RECEIVE ORDER request.
Critical—All PTFs that resolve High Impact or Pervasive (HIPER) or PTF-in-error (PE) conditions
- HOLDDATA—Enhanced HOLDDATA
- PTFS—Program temporary fixes
Recommended—Current RSL level PTFs and all PTFs that are resolved or that resolve HIPER or PE conditions
Important
As of June 15, 2020 (see technical bulletin ID 922), BMC only publishes PTFs that are in verified status (VER).
- Automate the service (via your scheduler) by running JCL on a recurring basis to identify service needs.
- Apply the system modifications (SYSMODs) to the appropriate zone.
We provide the following methods for using RECEIVE ORDER:

Do you have a sample for SMPCLNT ? //SMPCLNT DD * <See SMP/E command guide for options(ftp,ftps,http,https)>
Hi, Gerald. For more information about IBM z/OS SMP/E commands, BMC recommends consulting the IBM Knowledge Center. You can find examples relevant to your preferred download method (such as the example provided here).

Hi, receiving critical or recommended service or even specific PTFs works well with this method. But whats about RSLs like RSL1910? How I code this in an job? I only know the parm ALL, which means all available service. But I think BMC recommends not using ALL via ISR. Is this still your recommendation?
Hi, Bjoern. Thanks for checking with us!
The recommended content type behaves the same for IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER as for BMC ISR. The request will return all maintenance to the current GA RSL plus any HIPER/PE correcting PTFs.
All RSL maintenance is delivered with RSL SOURCEIDs for PTFs. If you would like to apply maintenance only to a specific RSL level, you can apply by SOURCEID.
is https://ws-prod.bmc.com/smpe reachable via a browser. Trying to get access through our firewall and the network team saying the address not valid. Told them it was a service server but not sure that is sufficient to get them give me network access. Looking for advice/direction. thanks
Hi, James. Thanks for contacting us! We have forwarded your input to the writer who is responsible for this content.
thanks was going to open a case but have no idea how since its not a product
Hi, James.
The IP address of https://ws-prod.bmc.com/smpe is 198.147.194.214, but it is not accessible via web browser. An SMP/E batch job is required.
If you still want to open a case, specify Common Install – z/OS as the product, or select it as a component of the product.
If I update the installation system and afterwards use RECEIVE ORDER - will new product versions be included in RECOMMENDED service?
Hi, Dorota. Thank you for your input! We have forwarded your input to the writer who is responsible for this content.
Hi, Dorota. The IBM SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER command delivers PTF maintenance only for the version of BMC products that you have installed.
I am unable to download a usable X.509 certificate. It comes down to my PC easily. and transfers (in Binary) to my host dataset without problem. The RACDCERT ADD command says that it is invalid and not really a certificate. This method is now dead to me. Unusable.
Hi, Tom. We thank you for your input and regret that the product has not behaved as expected. We recommend that you contact Customer Support to log a formal ticket on this issue.
For my IBM software orders I am using downloadmethod="https". Does BMC also support this SMP/E download method?
Hi, Thomas. We can confirm that we do support https as an SMP/E RECEIVE ORDER download method.
Hi, Thomas. Thank you for your question. We have forwarded it to the writer who is responsible for this content.
Hello,
I was not able to find information about how to obtain the X.509 certificate? Should I create a case to Customer Support?
Hi, Gabor. Thank you for your question. We have forwarded it to the writer who is responsible for this content.
Hi, Gabor. In addition to the link provided by Julio (thank you, Julio!), also see the following topic: File server and certificate information
Hello Gabor, you can use this link:
https://webepd.bmc.com/zso#/z-services
and under "SERVICES" select the "Request x.509 user certificate" option.
That´s it.
Regards.
I am having difficulty in downloading BMC SUPEROPTIMIZER PTFs BPN2631 and BPN2632 from Maintenace page. Could you please send us in BIN XMIT format?
